This is most likely Murph's final contract and he is wise to be certain about his family's future.

Sure he could have agreed to rolling 1 year contracts like Simo but Simo is not Marc.
I believe that his time as captain is over and should not be a consideration, just because you are not captain does not stop you from being a leader.

So Marc take your time and re-sign.
Free up money, a lot for the stars to be and maybe some FA etc.
don’t overpay and I’m sure sos would be thinking the same

Fair point, but would love him to come out and say I'm staying, just working though the fine points.
I am just disappointed with the way he is going about it.
The only time we have heard from him recently is him telling the media he has a lot of thinking to do.
He will not be captain next year but he is captain this year and he needs to show some leadership.
He clearly is not 100% behind the club for him to be stringing this out and weighing up his options.

Hasn't there been reports that he has been offered a 2 year deal on decent good money by Carlton?
If he does leave it will not be be booster his finances it will be to hopefully win a flag.

I’ve got no issue with him taking his time making the best decision for himself and his family.

And I don’t really understand the anger at him answering direct questions from he medi on his contract or intentions in a way that preserves his right to make a decision at the right time for him.

He’s been a great servant of the club and due, I think, a significant amount more respect than he’s been afforded in this thread.

From year one he’s been smashed physically, and still produced at very high levels when his body and teammate quality has allowed. by all accounts he has been a great support for the younger players, particularly since Bolton arrived and the mess of Malthouse’s leadership environment was cleaned up.

I’d love him to stay a one club player and potentially do a Crawford, but beyond question he’s earned the right to do what he feels is best for him.

Well Casboult shopped himself around for 2 consecutive years before accepting Silvagni's offer and perhaps Murphy is about to follow suit.
Too many Carlton players got too much too easily in the past.
I'm liking Silvagni's new reality ...

Brilliant, isn't it?

Veteran players inflating their worth, realising that nobody is that keen to fork out the cash they really want, finally returning to sign on the dotted line...

I don't think so in this case. Success and a chance at winning a flag seemed to be the reason.

I'd be shocked if contending teams weren't willing to offer Murphy at least 1 year at 400k if he wanted a chance at winning a flag. It seems as though the offer we have tabled (which is probably 2 years at close to 600k) wasn't significantly beaten.

If this is reliable I am absolutely stoked. Then we can now take Pick 1, 2, or 3 to draft ……. Smurph, Cripps, Ed, Dow, SPS, Fish, WALSH (peripheral LOB, Cuners) (Backup Graham, Kerridge) + a FA …..

Starting to take shape.

What annoys me with Murph is after the Freo game when the heat was on, our captain was talking about his contract. We really needed our captain to drive home the message that we're on the right path. Free agency is his right to explore but it wasn't a good look from our captain.

You do understand how the media works?
ask question> get answer
get some non sensationalist info> ignore

Bottom line is its the media you should be annoyed with , not MM

Yes good article, but 1 thing hes missing is that Murph can either see the writing on the wall regarding his captaincy..or hes actually been told he wont be captain next year.

Should we go through the number of captains that played there last few years without the captaincy? Its not a sleight, its just a mechanism to take the pressure off ageing players who need more advantages than they once did.
