Sorry to intrude guys, i watch a lot of Carlton games as most of my mates are blues supporters, and i dont think many people apart from blues really know how good Murphy is. I think he has the potential to be one of the top 3 midfielders in the comp. If he plays 22 games this year your in for a good season. Would it be fair to say he played underdone last year, because when fully fit he runs all day, i didnt see that at times last year. Brilliant footballer.

Cheers moondog, still a rung or two below Selwood IMHO.
He struggled with injury last year and again there are injury doubts at this stage of the year. Hopefully he can overcome these setbacks and fulfil his undoubted promise

Nice post. He was definitely under done last here after missing most of the preseason with a hip injury and then returned with only 2 weeks before our first game. He had a great season despite this but it stalled him from moving up a gear into the elite group.

He is under rated because of the perceived lack of 'two way running', but no one seems to mention his opponents lack of defensive pressure when he has kicked 50 goals in his last two seasons...go figure.

He will improve a hell of a lot this season if he manages to stay injury free.

Hey ben, thanks for the info in this thead. i rate Murphy very highly as well. I was really looking forward to seeing him develop this year to the next level. As a goal kicking mid that is super consistent i think he is reaching an age where he should become one of the most damaging players in the AFL.

Obv a SC question - he has been in my team all preaseason. is that latest injury scare enough for me to ditch him from team?

Hi Mark, long time no speak. :p

It's a hard one because before the Adelaide game he was set for a massive year but he came off at half time during that game and has since been seen with knee strapping. There has been no word from the club but that's nothing new with a host of players' injuries last year and in the preseason this year often remaining undisclosed for weeks or months.

If he plays round 1 he is a very good SC choice and should have a lot more support around him with Curnow in and under and the inclusions of Robinson and Gibbs into the midfield. It depends on who else from the Blues you have lining up because as it stands I already have 3 Carlton players (none being Murphy) and am loathed to include another.

With all that said he has looked great all preseason and is working a lot harder.

How's your team looking? PM me.

FB, you’re right, he probably should take his game to the next level (potentially) but he has probably been setback with his injuries in the last 12-18 months.
As for your dream team, I dropped him from mine as I am unsure to how effective he will be for round 1 due to this undefined injury(s)

Ive watched Murphy play a lot and when he is fit, he is an elite mover around the ground who kicks goals because he burns an opponent off with he's work rate and skill, and he is fairly good defensively as well. I hope he has no intention of going to GWS.

As do we all.

Cheers for the good words about him, I too believe he is a ripper of a little player and hopefully he stays fairly injury free; I'm amazed he played as well as he did at times last year though considering his niggles and interrupted pre-season, but he is a hard worker. I seem to remember he destroyed the Lions in one particular 3rd quarter too, was awesome to see.

Carlton midfielder Marc Murphy ready to step up

CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says Marc Murphy is ready to take the AFL by storm.

"What he did last year to get ready for Round 1 and have that impact on the season, still finished third in our best and fairest, after he virtually did no pre-season after Christmas, was great," Ratten said.

"It just shows the quality of the individual and his ability to impact games.

"Now he's had a full pre-season, he looks thicker and he looks even a bit fitter than he has in previous years.

"I think he's ready to take the game by the scruff of the neck."

Well what a great debut for 2011 by Murph last night. Marc was everywhere in the first half last night killing his multiple Tiger opponents. He did slow a little with the entire team in the second half as we allowed the Tigers to get back into the game as our poor kicking for goal early on came back to bite us.

If last night was anything to go by Murph is in for a HUGE season and admits their is still work to be done as well.....

CARLTON midfielder Marc Murphy admits the Blues will have to work on their kicking for goal after they almost threw away what should have been a comfortable victory over Richmond at the MCG on Thursday night.

With Murphy and Bryce Gibbs running riot in the middle of the ground, Carlton dominated the opening half, yet led by only 22 points at the long break.

To that point, the Blues led the inside-50 count 38-13, but had booted a wasteful 9.10. The Tigers, in contrast, had slotted seven straight goals.

Very happy anyway with Murph and he gets an 8.5/10 for last nights game and 2 Brownlow votes with hopefully many more performances like this during the year as we push for a finals spot. :thumbsu:

Chism. ( Proud buddy of Marc Murphy 2010/11 )

Note...

Every week this year i will be awarding Murph Brownlow votes if i think he deserves it based on his games to see how accurately i predict his total points come Brownlow night!! :D

I posted this as my Facebook status but thought I'd share it here too:

My man crush on Marc Murphy increases exponentially every season.

Great game last and Murph was everywhere with 31 quality disposals out of the middle. Next week will be a big test against a rampaging Pie outfit.

Gee Brownlow votes are hard on a night like that to predict as we had winners all over the ground but i am going with 1 Vote.

Brownlow Season Tally so far after 2 Rd's is...... 3 Votes.

Not the best game from Murph and he was relatively quiet more so in second half and as the game went on. Really struggled to have any impact against a quality outfit in the Pies and hopefully this display was a one off and a rebound against the Bombers is hopefully on the cards.

Brownlow votes = 0

Yearly tally so far after 3 games = 3.
