Still have no idea, and as I have said recently i believe it is a 50/50 call. If he wants to go I doubt many of us would begrudge him in doing so.

I would doubt Murph would accept 1 year offers imo
As a comparison who else is on that sort of money?Rather than discuss what position Marc could play from here on in, perhaps the discussion is what he should be offered contract wise.
Personally he still adds value to the team given our age profile and what we are developing
I think 2 years at 500K a year would be around the Marc....

Can't reiterate this enough & this was coming off a serious syndesmosis (yes I googled this for the correct spelling) injury in 2016 which could easily have finished his career. What have you to prove that assertion, though?
Have his foot injuries been due to overworking him, or rushing him back? What evidence have you to say that it was all due to his old age rather than the strain we've placed on him, playing the sole remaining knight from rattens era
I really do not know why you would think he was done, the season after he just won the best and fairest.
Initially liked your post, but I'm not so sure about it now.
I'm all for decreasing his wage, to bring it into line with what he's worth to us, but for him to have a ridiculously low wage would be absurd. Also, to describe him as mere depth is also offensive to the player he still is; at what point do you think he is no longer first 22, let alone not inside our top 5 players?
It'd be terrific if, over the course of the next 6-12 months, we had multiple players go past him, but we cannot plan for pipe dreams. We must realise that it's taken until this season for numerous Melbourne players to surpass Nathan Jones; that is a good 5 years into their rebuild, and despite how honest a player he has been he has not reached the heights Murph has at times.
For me at least, do what it takes to keep him around until it is genuinely the end for him, as he's going to be no worse then the free agent that takes his place.
Harsh, I'd be happy for him to be on a performance-based contract that values him between $650-$750k/year.Rather than discuss what position Marc could play from here on in, perhaps the discussion is what he should be offered contract wise.

I'm sure he's close to a top tier player in whatever salary structure SOS is operating.
He said recently he thinks he has 3-4 years of good football left in him.As in he'd want longer? 3?
Hopefully there’ll be opportunity to trial this in the remaining games this seasonHe said recently he thinks he has 3-4 years of good football left in him.
I'd love to see him play for a couple more as HFF, enjoy his football, kick a few goals, relinquish the captaincy, balance football with a young family. He'll enjoy the less pressure and damage to his body of being an extractor. After all he's been put through, he deserves that.

I sort of agree with what you are saying but some hawks supporters probably thought it was pretty harsh to move mitchell, lewis and now that hodgy is continuing on at lions.....doesn't look like it deterred prospective players queuing up to go there.I think loyalty is a two-way street. How we show loyalty to Marc will directly relate to the likelihood of players showing loyalty to us when the option to move comes about for them.
If we low-ball him or push him out, the players will know that they'd be best off looking after themselves as the club is not going to look after them.
Perhaps this is old-school thinking, but I think it's a part of the synergy that makes a successful organisation... of any type.
Is this a read between the lines sort of statement....Had a dream last night that a mate and I ran into Murphy and another player having some time away during the bye round. Asked Murph if he was staying - he was very cagey to begin with, but after I promised I wouldn't plaster it all over social media, he said pretty emphatically that he'd be off to another club but didn't know which one just yet. Could tell he was a little sad about it.
Take it for what it's worth.

Nah that's pretty much it! Also dreamt that I was an axe-weilding robot fighting a war against a whole robot army myself. Not sure if that means anything with regards to Murphy...Is this a read between the lines sort of statement....![]()

Loyalty goes both ways, what about the other players? Doc, Cripps, Dow, Would they think that when they turn 27 or 28 they better look elsewhere before they get too old. A good list manager will realize that they are dealing with people not just footballers.I sort of agree with what you are saying but some hawks supporters probably thought it was pretty harsh to move mitchell, lewis and now that hodgy is continuing on at lions.....doesn't look like it deterred prospective players queuing up to go there.
