Seems like every person in the club is singing the same song about the direction we are heading and the process being used to get there ... except the on field captain. Surely it is not hard to say you are excited about where the club is going and the talented young players you are leading?

If pressed, simply point out your contract has not finished and your manager is sorting out a new deal with the club. Even if you are exploring options, that should be the default position to take.

Excellent news but nothing official yet from the Club! :thumbsu:

Some terrific news for Carlton in what has been a tough year.

Captain Marc Murphy has signed a two year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2020.

I'd like to apologise. I said Murphy was a pathetic captain last week. I'm sorry. I am disappointed and concerned about the way it's playing out, but I crossed the line. I bleed navy blue. I'm obsessed. Every week is an emotional roller coaster at the moment. Again, sorry.

It's good to stand up and be accountable for your behaviour.

I wouldn't recommend it while you are on the roller-coaster though...

I would not mind using Murphy like Port use Boak. I think he could be a field general in the forward line and give his body a break.

Part of me was dreaming about who we would draft with his compo pick, but I think it is better for the club to maintain Murphy and use his leadership in the medium to short term.

Huge congratulations to you guys.

Murphy is a very good player, leader and has a lot more mongrel in him than people think.

It would have been remiss not to at least look around but I had no doubt that he would remain loyal.

These types of signings are extremely important for culture and hopefully this is just the precursor to this upcoming off season.

Best of luck guys, things are looking up!

looking forward to a heap of "fonzies" responses shortly. you know the ones "should have signed sooner" "just proves that he is mercenary by looking around".

anything but admit that they were wrwrwrwr "that word that they cant pronounce" wrong.
To be honest, as a Geelong fan I know what it feels like to lose the captain of your club.

Absolutely heartbreaking.

It would leave the "what if" factor if he didn't at least get his manager to ask the question of other clubs.

This just reaffirms his commitment.

Murphy was never going to leave.

wrong about what? still don't think he's captain material
not specifically directed to you. some of the vitriol in pages previous to this were embarrassing.
it seems another example of a club that is united and has everyone pulling in the right direction.
it also speaks volumes about the character of marc murphy.

As significant as any other signing at the club
Paul Roos was a big wrap for him during yesterday’s game, saying Murph provided that much needed overlap and run around the midfield, much like Simmo does in the back half. Plus his disposal and finish is pretty good.
