Just wondering who people think will be the three players we free up from our list.
We have to take 3 new additions to our list through the draft.
Now I guess it must be 4 with the signing of Jolly.
So who will go?

My Guess -

Chris Bryan
Ryan Cook
Danny Stanley
Anthony Rocca (retired - Anthony Corrie if this was already factored in)

Also - Tarkyn Locker may retire - swap with Stanley if so

We only need to add two players via the National Draft if we promote a rookie.

Rocca and Clarke are gone.
Stanley is unofficially gone.

Jolly has been added.
We add another two in the National Draft at a minimum.
We could promote Keeffe or Blair.

So at this stage, we only need to delist one more, and my money would be 100% on Bryan.

P.S. Don't get confused with the delisting of Bennell or Dyas who are rookies, they don't change much in the overall picture.

2 have left Rocca & Clarke.

Jolly has come in. We must let at least another 2 go.

I agree with TRS. Bryan 100% and Stanley has been unofficially delisted.

That is it.

I'd draft 3 in the ND and just fill whatever we have to in the rookie drafts, for Dyas and whoever.

I think we will leave Blair on the rookie list because we can get another player in the ND (pick 78 currently) rather then the rookie draft, with an earlier selection.

If this guy(pick 78) shows little in his 1st year, we can do a Thoolen and move him to the rookie list and elevate Blair then. ONly risk is if we want to play Blair earlier then round 12, I think, without putting someone on the long term injury list.

I'd also expect it won't be pick 62 & pick 78. Both will be much earlier with so many clubs not drafting much more then 4 players. Reports indicate we could see as little as 50 players taken in this years ND.

I thought I read in another post that Corrie retired?
Hadn't read that, but it's theoretically possible. A very good source mentioned that he was on a 2-year contract, so it would be odd if he retired 1 year into that contract...

On the other hand, if he wants to retire, I wouldn't stop him.

Yep, genius by Hine and the recruiters, they clearly don't rate this year's draft crop so they're making sure that when we pick up Luke Ball, it counts as one of our minimum two selections. :p

We have a natural progression now as far as INS and OUTS go.

This season, we lose Clarke, Rocca, (Dyas) and delist Stanley, Bryan and hopefully Corrie.

We have probably one, perhaps two ND picks that we'll look to use.

Next year's no problem either, I feel three of Lockyer, Prestigiacomo, O'Bree and Johnson will retire at the end of 2010. Hopefully not Tarks or Presti though.

After Trade Week, we still officially have 45 listed players (38 Senior + 1 Veteran+ 6 Rookies) (listed from eldest to youngest, asterisk indicates rookie listed):

  • Simon Prestigiacomo (Veteran already, right?)
  • Shane O'Bree
  • Tarkyn Lockyer
  • Ben Johnson
  • Leon Davis
  • Darren Jolly
  • Paul Medhurst
  • Josh Fraser
  • Leigh Brown
  • Chris Bryan
  • Alan Didak
  • Nick Maxwell
  • Dane Swan
  • Anthony Corrie
  • Heath Shaw
  • Shannon Cox
  • Sean Rusling
  • Harry O'Brien
  • Cameron Wood
  • Travis Cloke
  • Alan Toovey
  • Tyson Goldsack
  • Dale Thomas
  • Scott Pendlebury
  • John Anthony
  • Ryan Cook
  • Danny Stanley
  • Brent Macaffer
  • Chris Dawes
  • Jaxson Barham
  • Sharrod Wellingham
  • Brad Dick
  • Nathan J. Brown
  • Ben Reid
  • Tristan Francis*
  • John McCarthy
  • John Bennell*
  • Dayne Beams
  • Toby Thoolen*
  • Jarryd Blair*
  • Lachlan Keeffe*
  • Scott Reed*
  • Steele Sidebottom
  • Jarrad Blight
  • Luke Rounds

What's the maximum we're allowed to have on our Senoir list going into the National Draft? 38 minus 3 draft picks - 35, right? I'd imagine Prestigiacomo and Lockyer would both be Veterans in 2010, they'd be outside the 38, right?

Rocca, Clarke, Stanley and Bryan. Seems pretty straightforward. The only question is what number will Jolly get.

I'm not really sure that getting rid of Stanley or Bryan is a good idea.
For depth I think it's important that we keep them.

I mean for example next year in finals what if both Wood and Fraser were injured, or if Beams, Obree and McCarthy are all injured.
We'd need an extra ruck and I don't know that Keefe will be ready yet.
Stanley would be important as an in and under if the others were injured.

I just don't think that we'll get much out of the drafts this year.
Even pick 30 is in effect a pick 50 since the GC have got their kids.
Not sure we'll be able to get kids or even WAFL or SANFL players who are ready for AFL footy.
I'd vote to keep the side mostly together.

Why do people say that Stanley has been unofficially delisted? I would kind of like to keep him given that we didn't get Ball. Otherwise, we are left with only O'Bree as our extractor and hard body. I am still not 100% convinced that he has no role to play.

WFT..... TRS when did this happen, my understanding was that the club held Bennell in high esteem and had him factored into future plans. What happened, or are you just speculating because I haven't seen any such announcement.

Bennell basically quit and went home to Perth a few weeks ago, so he made the decision for us.

As for delistings, Clarke, Rocca, Stanley and Bryan should do it, allowing for 3 draft picks in the National Draft, and then either a rookie promotion (Blair) or a pick in the PSD (Tuck, Harris etc).

Either way, I think we should leave 1 spot spare after the National Draft to see who we can pick up in the pre season draft, as our list still needs experienced players. Note: This may be covered if Luke Ball falls to 30 in the ND.

I'd be really annoyed if Stanley got delisted and Cook stayed on the list from what I've seen cook is just as bad as Stanley if not even worse.

Cook had a bad year due to legal problems hanging over his head from a fight in Sale early in the year.

In 2008, once Heater and Dids were suspended, Cook played every game from about round 19 on, including 2 finals, and he performed very well in the Adelaide final.

Cook will stay, Stanley may not, and it's the way it should be.
