A good player is a good player. You don't want to be playing a whole group of kids who don't deserve games and losing. (EG: Melbourne/St Kilda).
A couple did deserve games last year. I'd rather do a Melbourne/St Kilda than a Carlton and have nothing when all the old heads are gone.
I would rather have played Kav or J Merrett all year and build them up for our next genuine premiership team, than build a dads army with no genuine chance of a flag. And in the process lose good kids with potential, or stunt their growth.

Essendon has agreed to terms with Paul Chapman. Definitely playing at Bomberland next season. Contract all sorted

was the HS the only one to even run with the story that he is leaving?

then they pretend to have an exclusive that he agreed to terms instead of admitting they got it wrong.

clubs should be able to submit official complaints to the AFL that get recorded on the journos accredition with the league.

Why the extreme? Are we full of kids who don't deserve games? We are talking about giving one or two guys a little kick start to give them time to adapt to the pace of AFL not running out un-competitive sides filled with first to third year players.

Not that this is everything to do with Chapman but if we are full of one thing it is one paced plodders in our midfield.

The pressure is on. Poor 2015 gets very close to a wasted year. Not sure how many wasted years you can have in a four year stretch (by my count we are two from three with the development that occurred in 14 being the real positive).

Should never have picked him up in the first place. Only reason to is if we are a serious premiership chance within his two years here, which we are not. All it was going to do is squeeze out a kid that should be getting games, eg Kavanagh
Different positions. Kav isn't a HHF. He was pretty much keeping Jetta and to a lessor extent Jackson Merret out which was a win.

Now it is up to Jackson to earn his position back.

So who was it that blew their ****ing load over Chapman leaving?

Essendon Football Club is delighted to confirm Paul Chapman has signed a new one-year deal.

The veteran forward agreed to terms this morning and will remain at the Bombers until at least the end of 2015.

Chapman said he was always confident he would go around for another season in the red and black.

“I’m really excited to be playing on for another year with the Bombers,” Chapman said.

“After playing 20 games this year, my body and mind still feel really good. I felt I had a really productive first year at the club and hopefully the coaches felt that I played the role they needed me to.

“I’m looking forward to going around again with the boys and getting stuck in to the pre-season.”

Senior coach James Hird said Chapman’s services would greatly bolster the side ahead of its 2015 campaign.

“Being a triple premiership player, there is no doubt that Paul brings invaluable experience to our team,” Hird said.

“He played some really solid football this year, particularly towards the end of the season and really showed his class during the club’s finals series.

“Paul is a great role model and provides important guidance for our relatively young forward line. He is a terrific asset for our club.”

The 33-year-old has played 20 games since joining the Bombers at the end of the 2013 season, after playing 251 games with Geelong.

And it's official!

I'd rather the likes of Zach Merrett learning the ropes from someone like Chappy both on and off the field than playing eventually delistees Del and Jetta.

Was exceptional in our final against North. We need to win a final in the next couple of years and he has proven this year that he's still one of the best clutch players in the comp.Let the young blokes force him out.

Yep. Happy for him to play every game until he doesn't warrant selection anymore. I don't care if thats half way through 2015 or end of 2017.

Good.

Despite still being able to pull out a best on ground performance every now and then, what he does for everyone (particularly Z.Merrett and Fantapants) behind the scenes is absolutely invaluable

You would have a point if there really was young guys rotting in the VFL. In fact there should be guys there like Kav, Edwards etc knocking the door down, but they aren't are they? Jackson got as much game time as he deserved and really it's only been Del that has done a heap in the VFL without much reward, and we all know why that was the case (he's not AFL standard).
A really good team needs really good depth. You have really good depth when you have really good players not getting much AFL time. We aren't there yet. Our depth is very average and unfortunately Chappy is not holding anyone back. Our trading this year shows what Hird thinks of our depth.

This is pretty much confirmed by where we finished in the VFL, we have been pretty uncompetitive in the VFL which doesn't bode well for the seniors side if we have a run of injuries.

We were in the finals race with 2 rounds to go. We beat the reigning premiers and were robbed against probably the 2nd best team this year. Yes we had some poor losses and were highly inconsistent but uncompetitive? That's just plain incorrect.

Great news.
HUN can go and get ****ed with their "Breaking, Chappy won't accept contact because of Cooney" headlines.

Can someone explain something to me about all this contract talk and (now) the extention - Wasn't Chapman's original deal a two year deal anyway? Is he extending that to a third? Why was it even up for negotiation/renewal?
Pretty sure it was one with the option for a second based on a trigger of a minimum number of games played in 2014.
