Another thing I don't understand is the whole 'good on geelong for trading him to his preferred destination'

he was always going to get there, it was a good will gesture from us to give them a pick

It's all about reputations.

Geelong in the past helped players get where they wanted to go, therfore, they showed goodwill in helping Chappy.

Essendon tried to get a good trade that benefited them in the past, therefore we are arrogant and difficult to trade with.
