Player Watch #8: Bailey Scott

Bailey is a prototypical NMFC footballer. Tough, loves the contest and will give 100% effort all the time. Confident he can play 7+ games next season and make a real impact

Who was the biggest slider of the AFL Draft?

In every draft, there is a player who slides further than the experts expect. In recent years, Jack Higgins and Brodie Grundy come to mind as examples of this.

AFL development guru Michael Ablett believes North Melbourne father-son selection Bailey Scott was the slider of the 2018 draft.

“There was certainly a few guys that slipped down the order that surprised me,” Ablett told SEN Breakfast.

“The one that comes to mind is Bailey Scott.

“To get him at pick 49 was an absolute steal for the Kangaroos.”

Scott’s father Robert played over 100 games for both the Cats and Roos meaning his son was eligible for both clubs as well as Gold Coast’s academy.

He ended up nominating North Melbourne, but it was Geelong who made a play for him at pick 49, forcing the Roos to match the bid.

“He’d spent some time over the last few years training at both clubs (North and the Cats) as well as his time up on the Gold Coast with the Suns at their academy,” Ablett said.

“Geelong were certainly familiar with him and would’ve loved to get their hands on him.”

Keep on hearing how smart Bailey is - anyone know just how smart? giantroo know his uni entrance rank? Are we talking EVW level or not quite?

With any luck they’ll get their heads together, build a time machine and all of a sudden we’ll have won every single premiership since 1897 (unfortunately for * they won’t join the league until 1925).

I think they're referring to football "smart", and it's correct, he's a very mature thinker.

He was doing some Engineering course. Not sure what branch it was.

No, he’s book smart.

Believe he’s transferred his engineering degree to Melbourne Uni.

He mentioned it on his video when he nominated us, a big part of his decision was moving to Melbourne Uni.

While I’m sure thats a big reason. The main reason was because he didn’t want to spend his career with ‘Mission Accomplished’ man at the tax scam park.

Son of 1996 premiership player Robert Scott, Bailey Scott’s professionalism and off-field demeanor was an impressive trait in the eyes of Adrian Fletcher.

“He was captain of the Allies this season,” he said.

“He showed great leadership, is really intelligent and can speak in-front of the boys.

“He sets the bar high in terms of standards. He’s a real professional.”

On field that intelligence is evident with his ability to impact the game with ease.

“Bailey’s quite an intelligent player as he reads the game very quickly,” Fletcher said.

“He covers the ground like an AFL footballer, he’ll get back in defence and he’ll get forward and kick goals in the forwardline.

“He just makes good decisions and is a really good ball user.”

Would it hurt for the club to put up an interview with Bailey. I'd say he's the only one of the new boys we haven't heard from yet.

Heath if you're still reading.......

They're probably waiting the silly yank sheila to return from leave.
