There's nothing wrong with the compo thing. But the "and then Port trades 17" side of things is pretty damn risky. The soon-to-be-delisted Kyle Hardingham for pick 17 should not be accepted. And if it gets rejected I would have thought it's reasonable for both sides to possibly face penalties...
What? Who decides what the real value of pick 17 is??

Go look at spuds who have been traded for first round picks in the past

I may have missed something, but how is picks 17 and 21 2 first rounders, there are 18 teams which means that a round is 18 picks. It's a late first and an early 2nd, for which we give up Ryder and a player that the AFL deems worth pick 17 (which according to Port should pretty much be Ryder).

yeah but it can't cut both ways, we're still down as 7th on the ladder, so compo should still be a pick after our first round selection (which would make it 13), even if we didn't have one.

Pat Keane himself has indicated that our indicative ladder position is still 7th for f/s bidding purposes (so any bid on Long coming after where our 2nd rounder would have been was matchable by our 3rd), so it should be the same for free agent compo
the other thing about this is, I'm not sure the club were told that in the event of a free agent leaving that you will not get the same compensation other clubs would. Let's say we didn't get this end of first round pick, and our first pick was in the third round, and a Jobe Watson leaves for massive money as a free agent. Yeah, here you go Ess, other clubs get pick 2-20, you can have pick 46 as compo for losing Jobe Watson. **** off

People aren't stupid. We're not gonna be able to give Port a crap player, get pick 17 back, give Port a wink and then live happily ever after. We can probably make it work, but I don't see how we get it done without actually, you know, giving stuff up, which makes it a fair bit less ideal. ie Elliott Kavanagh + Winderlich compo (and of course Winderlich compo might actually be nothing, so we'd have to find something else.)

also, Doss cited Cameron Wood, but Wood had just finished his 3rd year. He was taken at pick 18 and received a rising star nom in that season. When he was traded, he was not a spud. He was a highly drafted young ruckmen who had shown signs of being a top class ruckmen, or some bullshit. (Collingwood, meanwhile, were in their "holy **** we need a ruck" stage)

We should demand it be pick 13/14. The AFL does not want this to go to court and arbitration.

We have already been penalised draft positions so we should not be penalised again in this case.

Get picks 14+17ish and give up Hardingham + our third rounder or maybe Winderlich.

Should that compo pick not be 13, rather than 21?

They don't give compo picks out based on compo pick position, they give them out based on ladder position
I agree, should be 1st round - pick 13

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.
Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:
• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round
In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

Spot on mate.

If its pick 13 compo and hardingham for 17 then deal, otherwise no. The article indicates Dodoro is still reluctant which I am very happy to hear.

For ****s sakes give it a rest.

Other clubs have done it. Compo is handed out willy nilly. Why shouldn't we get our snout in the trough for a change. The AFL took our draft picks and ****** us already.

Your self-hating Essendon supporter shtick is getting really old
*if* the AFL sign off on it, it opens an enormous can of worms. Won't happen.

And your high horse act is getting old too. Didn't realise my opinions meant so much to you. I'm glad to be a part of your life.

Edit: Seriously though, didn't realise to be a "true" supporter you had to blindly champion everything the club does. **** sake.

I don't want to get carded and i know it's no opposition supporters but just wanted to say on the radio they mentioned hardingham as the misc player. So 21 and 17 for hardingham and ryder.

Are Port in on this too? If so, they must have another player in mind. Not exactly sure what they'd need from us to be honest in terms of mediocre players.

Winders has just started a business in Melbourne, so he's not going interstate.

Essendon didn't come up with this. They aren't even keen on it. Yet your first reaction is oh we're cheating, we haven't learned our lesson.

Now you're making up reasons to berate the club.
