I can't see how it's practical to have Paddy play for us next year if he takes us to a tribunal and loses. We're going to have to take 17 and sulk.
And then have 17 clubs circling our players next year knowing we'll rollover for peanuts? Yeah, nah. If there's not a suitable trade for a contracted player, and they want to really test the waters of this clause and create all kinds of uncertainty with their own future, let them.

Or he can stay, choose to sit out footy, sulk for 2015, realise he has another year to go on his contract, then seek a fair trade at the end of 2015.

My Port supporting wife says she'd prefer to not get Ryder than part with anything more than pick 17. They have Lobbe, they should be able to get Gorringe for bugger all, and by doing that they haven't sold the farm and/or disrupted the playing group.

Whilst she recognises Ryder is the far superior player to Gorringe, that's preferable for her atm and she wishes Port thought likewise. I like her thinking. Just because Ryder wants to go there doesn't mean Port have to take him if a reasonable trade can't be struck.
In theory Port are far better off with Ryder because of their run and gun game off half back. .... however, they will discover that if Lobbe is on their list then Ryder will spend far more time up forward and will soon lose interest.

Where Ryder would be of most value is where the other ruckman was also proficient up forward and there was a genuine split ... such as Hale, Bellchambers, Dixon ... or in the fantasy world a Ryder NicNat ruck duo would be insane!!

Personally I think that Gold Coast should be chucking pick 8 at us and a pitch at Paddy. Imagine him in tandum with Dixon giving him a chop out ... with that midfield at his feet. Pure madness.

Yeah, it's something they have to weigh up. Geelong pushed Moloney out the door to get Ottens, and it was integral to them winning flags. Port have a young group that should only get better, Ryder may be a luxury they don't need.

Not sure GC would want Ryder, Dixon, Smith and Nichols all on their list. Well they would as their ruck depth would be the best any club has ever had, but yeah I do get your point.

Maybe they can give us Nichols and pick 8 for Ryder and pick 19 or whatever it is we have these days. I'd almost consider that.

Because if we don't then other clubs will start offering our players big bucks and tell them that they can stand over the club with this clause. Freo could offer Hooker big bucks, Carlisle to Hawks ect ect.

Just like Gold Coast with Caddy we HAVE to take a stand here.

If we're giving up 19 then they can add in their 2nd rounder. I'd take that as we're back into each round. They could also trade Gorringe to Port for 17, which is fair enough for a ruck taken at 10. They have more ruck depth too I think.

I think he can quickly turn around his attitude. Dustin Martin and Ryan O'Keefe walked out on clubs but ended up staying. Wayne Campbell did the same thing years ago as well.

How do people consider this a good deal?

So it's Ryder + (for e.g.) Kavanagh for picks 17 and 21?

Piss off, that's rubbish.
The AFL have reportedly blocked that deal anyway.

What about Ryder and 2nd/3rd round pick for Lobbe and 17?

This way both clubs get a ruckman and we get a pick upgrade for getting the lesser ruckman.

I actually don't mind it in terms of what we get (as long as it's not us giving up Kav to get Port's 1st rounder) the issue I have with it is everything else, port are trying to rort the system, the AFL will probably help them, and it has to create an inherently unequal trade that favours us just to make it work.

It creates an incredibly dangerous precedent

Seriously Port pick 17 + pick <11 or piss off. We don't have to. Stop with the moralising about what Paddy has been going through as you're now part of the problem. If they really cared about him they'd tell him we can't trade anything that is worth what your club wants look elsewhere ... or they'd offer something in the ball park and make the trade happen quickly without making any comment in the press.

Such campaigners, such hypocrites. Such feral bogans surviving on the turnover of real clubs like big 4 in Vic, both WA team and the Crows.

Apparently Ryder has been in daily contact with Hinkley and has been given a personalized training program by Darren Burgess.

And we're the ones in breach of contract
What would happen right now if we were doing the same thing to Travis Cloke?

I blame the board for us being easy targets for the media and other clubs. They needed to grow a pair a long time ago and stand up to these campaigners. Until we do we'll constantly have them sniping at us.

Shhhhhhhh. It's Hird's plan to infiltrate their training program & their high level ranking employees. Ryder has never wanted to leave the Dons.

we'd be on our 2nd find for tampering after the first wasn't deemed hefty enough

I couldn't ******* care less what he wants to do, what has happened, yadda yadda. That he has been given a program by a club he isn't yet guaranteed to get to is a ******* disgrace. I hope the AFL announce a huge fine for it and have Kochie reveal it on Sunrise, like he does every other Port ******* Adelaide-related bit of news.

I personally think that Essendon make it clear that we refuse to trade with Port due to the continual arrogant bad faith they've displayed over this. .... oh you've had ASADA issues so we can do what we want with your players!!

NO DEAL glory be YOU!
