I am too Foxdog. Remember watching him in the last VFL Final + was impressed by his passion + determination, when he gave such impassioned directions to the team. Was just waiting for him to say Rooke-esque "Come on Boyz!".
Yeah very true. . I'm excited for him.

If guys like Bolton and Grieg miss out again..surely they should see our system and at least enquire... let me show you how worthy im am etc ...
Agree... If you were a young guy who missed out and you had a club eg like Frankston or Geelong to play for you would choose a club like Geelong who has there own stand alone team

We need a spiritual leader hard at it type... Does he fit the Max Rooke role?

Not much of a highlights reel, but I see some animal there in the congestion with that 85kgs frame. He's almost my powerhouse weight, lol.

He's been a consistent performer at VFL level and deserves a chance. I just question whether we should look beyond our own VFL team when recruiting mature aged players. For example Michael Gibbons or Mitch Maguire.

Honestly think Goddard would make a great coach.

:eek::eek::eek:

You have no concern about the way he treats people? His arrogance? I think his meltdown this year revealed his true colours.

Still, I'm interested to hear the qualities he has, which makes you think he'd be a great coach?

I said in a post that I thought he had that Rooke-esque quality. From the few VFL games I saw this year, I thought he showed a lot of grunt. Also, his acceptance speech at the Carji was excellent. He appears to have a lot of terrific qualities + geez I hope he does well, like Stewart.

BTW, what position does Atkins play?

EDIT:
Will play as a full time forward pocket you’d assume

Brendan Goddard has nothing to do with Tom Atkins getting picked and nothing to do with GFC.

No relevance here at all. Move on.

Go Catters

We did take Kreuger and Fort from the SANFL this year and Kelly from the WAFL last year.

I think Atkins is your Sheringham/Ruggles level pick up but he may surprise.

Worth having an AFL pathway for the local GFL players when we rely on them so much as top ups for the VFL side. Even if you are churning 3 Atkins' as a rookie to find one Stewart it is worth it.

VFL coach Shane O'Bree + team co-ordinator Nathan Tweddle visit Tom Atkins at home shortly after he was drafted

I'm not sure why everyone keeps mentioning pace and been slow.... Give me a guy with a football brain any day like Atkins then pace.

They don't actually know how fast players are or aren't anyway. Pace is the biggest nonsense of football discussions, may as well just use a meaningless term like X-Factor.

I thought it was interesting that they've shown there his number 64 and the Bendigo Bank logo, but the AFL logo is in the numbers. Is the AFL logo usually displayed on VFL guernseys or is this explicitly to show his journey from one team into the other?

I'd love to see him running around in the 64, but kinda doubt it will happen.

I don’t mind this.

Think come round one we might see Atkins in the side. He is ready made and adds a lot of toughness and tackling pressure.

What he brings is quite a niche and would not be surprised at all to see him walk into the side and play all 22 games.

I'm sure he is a great guy. He is ferocious and tough but not sure why he got on the list in the position he plays and at his age.
Because we don't have enough defensively-minded ball winners who run both ways. There's a spot there for him, and it's currently marked "S Selwood" IMO.

You never know, Atkins might keep his VFL number, didn't Ling keep 45? Or are there certain numbers for AFL + others for VFL?

BTW Atkins is looking forward to devoting himself to full-time footy + said AFL training is far more intensive, he plans to work hard on improving his weights training + endurance.

I like most of your post but think it's a little denigrating, Atkins is his own player & not to be compared to previous upgrades.

He is quite young but was good enough to win the b&f twice & to be named as captain of our VFL. I've seen a few of his games & quite happy for his recruitment, think he will give an edge & be instrumental in educating the younger players.

Nick Chubb star rookie running back for the Cleveland Browns goes 5'11 and 103kg.
Punches holds through defensive lines. Maybe we should try inventing a new type of mid.
If we could build Atkins up to say 90kg he'd do some damage. Why not? Really nothing to lose and would be an interesting experiment
