the delivery can seem worse than it is because he will not lead. added to that, when the ball is bombed long to him, he gets bustled out of the way, and likes to fall down. looks like he doesn't even want to be there
Some selectors would insist that he play according to his size and not let him get away with falling down every time he's in a marking contest.

Some selectors would drop players who consistently disregarded their instructions.

Some selectors would warn and then drop players whose body language was consistently poor and who refused to chase their opponent up the ground.

I watched Adelaide v Essendon today and Sydney v Hawthorn as well, i've been selfish lately, I usually only watch North play, some things to consider, Buddy leads hard, contests, kicks long, makes stuff ups, goes again, leads, contests and so on, Hale doesn't.

Adelaide have kids who are fit, strong, arrogant and can play, isn't AFL coaching as transparent as it has ever been, what secret do Adelaide have that we don't, or Hawthorn or Essendon? Our forward structure is a joke.

Hale needs to start leading, start crashing packs, start taking contested marks, start dishing off handballs.

A final question has Carey ever spoken to Hale, about playing forward?
Make the call David.

I thought we re-signed him so we could get maximum value out of the Gold Coast in 2010 and we won't get held to ransom by him being out of contract.

He would have established ruck value and forward value to a new team.
How?

He's a shit forward... his ruck work isn't that great and hasn't been known for being a Macca-Petrie-Cox-Hille type ruckman in getting a lot of the ball around the ground when playing ruck.

I don't see his trade value.

Yeah, problem is Hale is soft as butter. He cannot take the bumps himself so how could we expect him to dish them out?

He needs to harden the **** up and stop falling on he's arse when touched with a feather.

His hands have been extremely soft, he is dropping dead sitters and he is going to ground even before there is body contact.

Our forward structure is shit, but to single out Hale is not fair. Edwards, Petrie and Thomas have been next to useless as well.

What makes Warren a real gem is his work rate. He will lead, lead and keep on leading. Petrie and Hale need to have a good hard look at themselves, they have played a lot of footy and should be leading the young group, not let Warren show them how to do it.

Yeah, that's part of the problem. There's always someone next to useless. I think it confuses him. If only they'd lead to different areas we could maybe isolate useless one out and he'd have half a chance. I still reckon he'd hit the deck though.

Been saying it for a long time...........Hale will never be another Salmon....having a 200cm FF in this day and age will never work because the space isnt their anymore...the only way it would work is if Hale had Cox's mobility which he doesnt...........

the experiment has failed and what it has done is have a domino effect on the balance of the structure..Drew has been wasted at CHF when the ball never comes down the corridor..

I havent been able to work out why Laidley continues to play Hale at FF when he has a 100 goal FF in his team...Edwards as a hit up half forward will only ever be as good as the deliver from a flank...get him to FF or get Drew there....or maybe try one of the kids ie Okeefe...put Hale on the bench and rotate him through the ruck...if he cant cut it as a ruckmen then punt him and let Goldy take his place.

Its time to open the flood gates and let some of the these young fella's have a crack, J. Smith, etc and some others that are on the radar give them a run on the paddock. I may also add maybe 4 games to go or so give Corey Jones, Harris a run to finish up the careers with some dignity.
Back to hale you can't just have the big fella have it all his own way and getting SWEET F,ALL in return. I'd rather he goes in and out of the side until he learns where most of all the fun is............on the big stage!!

May I add this is a bloke that should have taken the next step this year for the side...........people inside the club know where he is at, but from the boundry/tv/fantasy footy etc you could probably pen this year down as a " forgetable" year. or a longer learning curve year

I was there yesterday and he couldn't get a kick in Bart Cummings stable.

I reckon there would have been more value in putting a cardboard cut out of him out there than the man himself the way he played.

But still, the Gold Coast will pay over the money for him. They will need an experienced big man and he is exactly that, and being a local boy won't harm his chances either.

I think he is very tradeable.
Not sure what we would get for him, but im thinking a new club like the gold coast would be keen for his experience.
Anything less than a first round, not worth the exercise.

Sure has. And the failure should have been recognised just a few weeks into the season. The signs were all there.

Also worth pointing out that the big fella at the other end in JK didn't seem to have the same trouble as Hale. And it certainly wasn't a delivery or midfield issue. The saints weren't giving it to him lace out, he was taking contested marks like you would expect a big fella to do. JK hit the contest harder, demanded the ball better, and showed far more endeavour. Embarrassing really. Hale hasn't shown this. Anyone who sits in the goal square is occasionally going to kick some goals, the occasional good game is not good enough.

He must surely now be dropped from the team. I think this weeks move to spend more time in the ruck was his last chance to get some touch. Should be dropped to develop some hunger.

As for your Edwards point. I agree, should be played at FF. Can't say it enough, needs to get the ball inside 45 if we want himto be effective. Is not a good enough user of the ball to be getting it further down the ground.

Lastly, I had to laugh yesterday when Edwards marks the ball about 75 out, Hale is the only forward with 2 defenders near him. Edwards waits and waits to see if Hale will lead, surprise surprise, Hale doesn't lead and he doesn't even appear to call for it long, he just kind of hangs around. So Edwards bombs it long, the 2 defenders spoil the contest. I watch this unfold and think to myself, if ever anyone needs proof that Hale does not know how to present, they just need to watch this.
