You're placing lots of faith in a guy who has never played a senior game and can't manage to get on the park.
Yeah, that is a fair call, but seeing what other options we have I am more optimistic of the unknown than the known. :p

For all their inconsistency, Hale and Petrie have shown they're capable of match winning performances. I'm going to need a bit more evidence before automatically replacing them with an untried rookie.
They have shown they can do it, they have failed to prove that they can play at an acceptable level in a key position consistently. Petrie turns 27 this year, it is not like he has 3 years to develop in that role. Hale is a couple of years younger but his consistency is extremely poor and I think he has a lot of work to do.

Tarrant is only 20 and not expected to hit peak for another 4 or so years, he has time to develop before hitting his prime.

FWIW, I thought Hale looked like a decent target today. Of course 0.4 is crap, but he generally isn't too bad in this area. I was more worried by the way that the Swans midfield seemed to find an extra gear from the third quarter which our midfielders just couldn't match.
Hale's leading was 100% better than last week. In the second half we moved the ball more indirect and they pushed back numbers and he has less room to lead to. His kicking was a real let down, his run up looks totally different to what it used to be and not really sure why it changed, he used to be a pretty reliable kick.

If he can take the good from his leading work and combine it with his old kicking for goal he has promise, but he really needs to show over the next two months that he can keep getting improving and play consistently. Anyone who is the main target should be kicking 3-4 goals a game on average, preferrably not with with severe fluctuations. For a guy of his reach if he leads hard it should be almost impossible for someone to legally spoil him.

He should have kicked those goals. It did cost us the game
You can't blame him missing those 4 scoring shots in losing you the game. What would be better, him loping around in the forward line like Brendan Fevola last week and doing squat, or showing that he can play as a tall CHF in leading, creating opportunities and taking contested marks?

not a massive Hale fan but I think our old game plan(inching the ball forward) gave him no chance. Crocker's more direct approach means he should get more one on one opportunities instead of three on one.
Have to perservere with him. He's run out of positions to play. Can't ruck, not a CHF. FF is his last chance.
He is much better value when the umpires are paying the chopping frees. (whatever happened to that rule)

Yeah, i was much happier with his work rate this week, he just let himself down with the finishing but given he was previously a fairly accurate kick I am confident he wont have massive issues in resolving it.

I just want to see his effort and work rate be high and consistent for the rest of the year, after the end of the season the new coach has the pre-season to work on the coordination between his forward work and the midfield group.

Hale cost us the game. 2 of his behinds ended in sydney goals and another ended it a point for them. Scoreboard pressure he just needed to kick it. Did anyone else swear when he stole the mark off Hamish. I was certain macca would of kicked it and Hales goes and wastes it.
But yeh i called this in the Game Day thread at the time.
I also called that Hale and Jones will disappear after half time.
Geee we have a looooong way to go.
I just cannot grasp we went form being the second best side in rd21, 08 to this:eek:

no way in hell should Hale be equalled with Petrie. One gives his all time and again and has a work rate second to none, the other is a cat who should have been dropped for poor form weeks ago. the question then comes, when do you try a rookie?? how about right now when there is little negative effect that it will have. Hale has had chances, and maybe he warrants them, but i bet you a rookie will work his socks off if given a chance, and just maybe he will be a damn sight better than Hale. not even maybe, because it will be good to see some enthusiasm!
Not impressed by Hale's second and third efforts then, or the way he crunches the packs using his 100kg frame?;)

In previous weeks Ive towelled up the big fella but I reckon he was pretty good...he was up against one of the best defenders going around in Bolton and I reckon Buddy killed him....

what we havent worked out is because he is 200cm tall we lob it into the clouds and he then gets hammered.....put it into space in front and he goes ok...Crocks new game plan might be the answer to the buddy dilemna....the kicking is another story

He gave away three frees today, all of which were contentious.
Especially when held up against the blatant push Osborne got away with last week.
Seems he is treated very differently to other key forwards.
Tweety was chopping and hanging on all day, yet every time Hale touched him he got a kick. I'd be frustrated if I were David.
He should have had a goal from 10m out in the third term, and that one in the dying seconds.
Add in the one Simpson kicked that was taken off him, and the appalling decision not to give Pratt 50m when his kick was smothered by a guy who was clearly over the mark, the rebound resulting in a Richmond goal, and we were a bit stiff.

NOTE: Amazingly, Seven never showed a single replay of the last mark. They showed Riewoldt's dropped mark four times and then ended the broadcast.
Great work guys!

agree with all of that

but jeez i would feel a lot more sorry for him if he could kick a goal from 15m out straight in front

Agree with both these comments, the bloke couldnt buy a free if he was the richest man in australia. Defenders get away with so much on him and if i was north id be asking for a please explain, because its not like its a rare occasion, its every game.

It's been happening since round 1.

Ha, CH 7 news also didn't bother showing the Hale contest in the last minute but certainly made sure the Riewoldt dropped mark was shown.

****ers.

Exactly Mate. if they continue to call it like that we're better off with someone like edwards who doesnt give away the frees and can actually mark in a contest and from back possy

I've been saying this for a while. While Hale certainly could do more to impose himself on a contest, it must be hard for him to understand why interference in a marking contest is a free if he does it, but not if someone does it to him.

It wouldn't be hard for North to compile a video of incidents where Hale is interfered with, with no free paid, and contrast it with the sometimes tiggy frees that are paid against him.

The fact is, he is that bloody big, it must be hard for a defender to stop him without grabbing him or chopping his arms..........and it is not up to the umpires to apply an unofficial handicapping system.

With Hale according to one of my mates in the Richmond rooms before the game they singled David Hale out to put pressure on and give as much hassle as possible as he plays like shit when put in that situation which is true but i think he had one of the hardest times on ground this round. He did well today could have done better but took a lot of contested marks and actually played hard today. Well Done Hale.

Just as a side note, just watched the local news (Hobart) and they actually gave us some pretty good air time, talked up harding etc.

AND they showed the last mark from Hale, basically calling it a rubbish call. that he was pinged for no reason
