It looks like Oleg won’t play a senior game this year. Had an injury interrupted year last year and preseason. Will this kid survive on our list? Played below average games against Coburg and Pies. Then lasted two minutes before doing his mcl on Sunday. I rate his talent, but his attitude and body appear to be his Achilles heel. Will he survive folks? ATM Drummond appears more promising to me.
I must admit I am surprised he hasn't come on... After 2016 we were praising him as one of our only shining lights.
The 2017 pre-season I am sure all the word out of the camp was he was one of the hardest/best perfomed players during the pre-season, then he just fell off a cliff. So he may have had the right attitude but hasn't dealt with not getting a go... but it does appear he keeps picking up injuries that set him back

Markov is a bit like Menadue, lightly built and needed to get stronger to play. Better footballers than say MacIntosh who plays a similar roll, but don't have his strength and bullocking. Smaller fast players like Edwards, Short and Butler can get away with it because they are good at what they do (work around the packs), but HB's and wings need to get down and dirty or work in the air, like Vlaustin. So until they need build up more. Witness Menadue last game when the heat was on, just not physical enough. Bob Murphy was one of the few rangy HB/wings that got away with it, but he was all class and the game has gotten a lot tighter.

Oleg Markov will ignore rival interest and sign a two-year contract extension with Richmond

RICHMOND flanker Oleg Markov will ignore rival interest to sign a two-year contract as the Tigers continue to lock away their batch of young talent.

The club’s imminent signing of Tom Lynch on a deal of as long as seven seasons hasn’t stopped the club methodically ticking off on securing most of its list.

Markov, the son of former pole vaulting champion Dmitri Markov, has played only 15 games but had drawn interest from rival clubs given his dashing style of play.

Despite not playing a game this year he has joined young forward Shai Bolton in staying at Punt Road to help his development as a player.

The Tigers’ VFL side had been dominant all year but crashed out in straight sets, meaning the senior side will have to rely on match simulation to keep players like Dan Butler in peak fitness.

Richmond has re-signed Jayden Short, Jack Higgins, Jack Graham, Ryan Garthwaite and Shai Bolton, as well as senior players Dylan Grimes, Toby Nankervis, Jack Riewoldt, Alex Rance and Trent Cotchin.

According to reports last week both Bachar Houli and Shaun Grigg will sign one-year extensions to continue at the club, with Reece Conca, Corey Ellis and Sam Lloyd out of contract.

Gold Coast will likely secure VFL star Anthony Miles, who has been unable to get regular senior opportunities, while popular utility Lloyd will toss up staying at a club he loves with interest from the Western Bulldogs.

I approve of this re-signing. :thumbsu: Some players (Graham, Snags) thrive on being thrown in while others take longer to develop. What will be interesting is how we will deal with our veterans going forward if we have a sustained period at the top. I can see Markov replacing Houli over time, but will be interesting to see how that transition is managed.

He is gone man, was told he will be delisted from what I heard a while ago. Just wanted to wait till his season was over. Hope he gets another crack at the bombers.
If true mate then a credit to him as he played his best game for us in the vfl Saturday. He actually played like it was his last game and looking to impress the Bombers. Sadly he never went on from the first season in which he showed a lot of positives. I still believe VFL is his level and his game won’t improve to get him to the next level.
On the other hand Markov has the wheels and skill set if his body allows him to.

Gone from emergency in last years GF, to delisted under 12 months.

An important lesson in how things can change drastically in the AFL world.

Things may have changed since you heard the news. Houli is looking a bit more "cooked" than most thought earlier in the year. Oleg was excellent on Saturday despite just coming back from a knee injury that kept him out for a while. He is the obvious replacement.

He was talking about Corey Ellis. It was in response to my comment.

Good news on potentially re signing , still not sure he will make it long term , but was one of only a few to show some promise in the VFL finals so happy for him to stay on for 2 more years
