Autopsy 31 point loss to Collingwood

Poor game Pies were well worth the margin and even when we had possession we butchered it and didn't really put them under any sustained pressure.
As mentioned some of the senior players didn't stand up tonight. Some signs from our fringe players that they will push on. Losing Amartey didn't help.
Heeney will close to be pushing Goodes and Franklin as one of the finest Swans in the modern era , just plays elite all the time even when we are going backwards.
Not sure we have the cattle on the park at the moment to trouble the top sides. If we can try and break even win loss until we get some players back then we are a chance of finals. Trying to be positive and I think that having our lesser lights get an extended run in the first team will really strengthen us going forward over the next two to three years.

Imo Hayward is and Paps maybe, and Hayward just can be a non factor like tonight
Paps is a liability without a key forward to bring it to ground. Hayward like you said can be a non-factor, and is too frequently to be our most important forward.

Even when Joel is off (and he mostly hasn't been this year), his presence is crucial. None of our other keys can match his presence. He's not our best forward, but he's the least replaceable forward we have IMO.

The reason is pressure. They hand passed to the player created a free player and kicked to the forwards advantage. Our handballing frequently missed the player and we were just trying to get it forward under pressure. When that happens you have to play in front because the midfielder simply can’t get the penetration or accuracy on a kick
Absolutely bang on. But even on the counter once or twice with minimal pressure, they were away, saw the contest ahead and still undercooked the kick.

Our inability to win the one on ones and the lack of run, in particular out of defence left us bereft of options once the Pies blocked up the corridor. Compounding this was the poor marking inside 50 and the even poorer defending in defensive 50.

Many of our senior players who we need to lift given our current injury toll went missing. Rampe, Lloyd, Florent, Hayward, Rowbottom, Chad (looked like he couldnt give a sh*t) and Blakey were either poor or conspicuous with their lack of impact. McCartin and McLean couldn't catch a cold tonight (although cracking goal by Hayden). Hamling lost too many aerial contests. If not for the efforts of Heeney, Grundy and a few of the youngsters, the scoreline would've been really ugly. All up, a very disappointing outing.

Florent was excellent, about the only player with defensive intent all night. The rest fair enough

Jake Lloyd stops sydney moving the ball as much as the opposition players

Joel been our best this year for sure

low bar though

Anyone notice the chest guard Warner Snr was wearing under his jumper - suspect there is an injury he is carrying.

Cleary was impressive. Roberts and Wicks too loose tonight in defence.

Rampe is cooked - put a fork through him.
Roberts not a great defender. Lacks speed to keep up with oppo medium / smalls. With the rise of Bice and Wicks, he may be the one to make way for Cunningham.

Awful game to watch, Pies worked out the gameplan and we had no answers to it. Block the corridor and you win. It's our main method to score because we can't win clearances.

Assuming Amartey is out, easy switch for McDonald.

Hamling not the worst but unfortunately for him there's a better player that plays his position to come in, Melican

Gus is frustrating with his ball use but he tries hard and is our best chance at winning a centre clearance, so I'd drop Lloyd for McInerney.
Agree about Lloyd. Deserves to be dropped on that effort .

I’m sick of the Brisbane Lions comparisons from last year excuse. You’re kidding yourself if you think we are emulating that.

Finals are probably unlikely this year. There is no cavalry in sight with those out of the side.

We had a coach whose go to was Reid back in the last part of a quarter and now we have a Coach whose move is McCartin forward. Just forget that move he is a different player forward and is not an answer.

Make other bold switches. Move Blakey up on a wing or Bice for a period.

Rampe time is up. You were a great servant of the club but giving up contested marks and having nothing more than a long kick to a contest where we can’t mark is just time on a great career. Take Lloyd with you.

This team don’t have the composure through enough players to not panic kick. This alone could change our fortunes to risk a good disposal rather than panic kick to be under the same pressure five seconds later.

Flashes of brilliance but not enough class to dispose clean.

If I had the opportunity to choose another team back in 1984 then I’d select one that doesn’t have such a terrible history with umpiring. There just seems some BS hate for Sydney where we are rarely in their good books. I’m sick of the frustration around that. Of course I’m glad I chose the Swans but it’s a commitment to crap umpiring.

Lloyd has often done that. He is very risk averse, and when the ball is moving, Lloyd gets it and just stops, ruining the momentum.
He's not a good enough field kick to hit up the more difficult targets. Bit like Rampe, hence why both tend to either stop and / or kick long.

Tall forward. Papley easily has the most impact on games from our forward group..
It's a major drop-off, but the likes of Hanily and Cleary can fill Paps' void better than any of our keys can replicate Amartey's presence.

Amartey often gets double-teamed. No opposition is ever going to bother double-teaming any of our other key forwards. Cannot overstate how important this is.
He knows it too, looked filthy being subbed off.
I think this is why he has looked so much better this year. His self-belief is far higher than it's ever been on a weekly basis.

Been begging for Sydney to draft some key defenders and inside mids for years. Hasn't happened and it really shows how short we are in both areas.
It’s ok last draft we’ve drafted 2 X 191cm 45kg blokes that god bodied at under18 level. That should fix the problem.

Lloyd made some poor decisions but he was one of the only Swans who could make space for himself with his run. Just used it poorly

Nick Daicos gets uncontested possies because he uses it so well so his team uses him , we get Jake Lloyd collecting them because the opposition doesn't care

Cox needs to move Blakey into a spot he can create and set up goals imo
Honestly I don't care where he moves him as long as he's not playing on a man in the defensive 50. For someone who has spent so long there, he's about as bad as a defender as I can remember (purely as a defender, not factoring in his rebound ability). If Cox doesn't realise this soon I'll start to get very concerned because it's so blindingly obvious.

If he keeps whinging for frees and stops to do it while play is going he can move to the VFL
