DEBUT: 2011
DRAFT: #Undefined, 2010 Zone
RECRUITED FROM: Morningside (Qld)/Gold Coast/St Kilda

Can’t help but be amazed by Tom’s wizardry when the ball is below his knees… second and third efforts… work rate around the ground… absolute champion!
Without doubt we lose last night without him.

How many ruckman have we seen be able to scoop the ball one handed off the ground like he did last night at pace? He is like another midfielder who can accurately deliver inside 50 or to a target with 100% confidence in his foot skills. Probably the best field kick for a ruckman I have seen at the Swans in some time.

My favourite stat of last night: Tom Hickey had the most metres gained of any Swan last night and second most of anyone on the ground.

What an extraordinary season.

he also seems to have an ability at getting a hand in when someone else has the ball, almost like a strip in basketball, i think he did it a few times last night

Was Hickey's year the best individual season of any Swans rucknan since Darren Jolly?

Reckon he's got a fair case against Mumford's last 2 seasons with us.

Don't get me wrong, Hickey still has some way to go before he reaches Pyke cult favourite status.

While repeating his 2013 season stats
Great comparison robbie, thanks for the suggestion.

So in 2013 Pyke was superior to Hickey in the ruck, the Swans were actually the 4th ranked team in the league for hitout differential. This year with Hickey we were 10th with a negative differential. Yes, Mumford was supporting Pyke in 2013 but despite that, Pyke was still 8th in the league for total hitouts.

Pyke was a vastly superior contested mark and goalkicking target up forward, having double the scoreboard impact of Hickey in 2013. That was of course his best season for contested marks as the well, another area where he was clearly superior to Hickey, and absolutely elite in the league ranking 2nd in the AFL.

Its an unfair comparison to try and say Hickey is in Pyke's class. Lets just be happy he had a good year.

Fair enough, I think we can all agree if we're ranking the last decade:

3) Tom Hickey (2021)
2) Mike Pyke (2007)
1) Callum Sinclair (2018)

;)

What is your absolute favourite Mike Pyke moment?

His 4th quarter of the 2012 GF was immense. Key marks all game, including outmarking Hale to set up the Goodes' goal in the 4th quarter.

A lot of you probably forget that he comprehensively outrucked both McEvoy and Hale in the 2014 Grand Final as well, while all the higher profile players that you all fawn over were delivering pissweak and shameful efforts.
