In a surprising turn of events, Williamson was noted to be named in North Melbourne's reserves side to face Richmond this weekend, with the Roos confirming the North Ballarat product has put pen to paper on a deal at Arden Street.

Would have like to have seen him brought in instead of Newnes after Newnes was dropped and then brought back in without doing that much in the 2s. Willo was playing good footy before he stepped away.

Have to feel he was feeling a little un loved.

Maybe he just knew he couldn't or didn't have the mental fortitude to make it at AFL level and North VFL team threw some $$$ at him. Who knows, best of luck to him.

If he's retired then he can't return for 18 months, same as Jones, unless the AFL and the club give clearance.

He retired mid year (it seems) so he could enter a draft end of next season or request clearance, ala Hodge to Brisbane.

The odd thing was the official announcement from the club which created a suggestion of personal battles of some kind.
It's strange this couldn't be resolved at the end of the season. Or even state that "the club and Tom have mutually decided to go in different directions".

Sounds plausible...give him a better chance to revive his career.

He'd pretty much fallen so far down our pecking order he wouldn't get a game this year.
