Irrelevant factoid warning

Sicily and Sardinia were both Hellenic Colonies in the great age of colonisation circa 700-600BC - Sardinia was quite influential in the Peloponnesian War being the wealthiest state and having its own large naval fleet - a war which pretty much defined what the 'Imperial Idea' was and how powers inevitably exercise control over weaker states. Thucydides is the original and still the best military/political writer a brilliant mind and general who whose Periclean Funeral Oration pretty much outlined the core of the Democratic tradition - both French and American constitutions are direct descendants of the Athenian model of Democracy described perfectly in the Oration- ironically the British Imperial Tradition bares much closer resemblance to the Spartan Tradition. As an aside- Thucydides rather than Herodotus is credited with inventing the notion of Historical writing. Everyone should read the preface and Book One.

If you are lucky enough to holiday in Sicily and you have some passing familiarity with its history - you will no doubt note that there still exist communities whose 'native' dialects include a lot of of 5th century (Attic) Greek roots. The most beautiful and (my favourite ) part of Italy - the North has its charms but the South has the best cooking and a rugged coastal beauty.
Just to add another irrelevant fact... during this period, a fella by the name of Cyrus was ruling a newly dominant Persian empire. He was brilliant and implemented something of equal importance to democracy, unfortunately what he did was lost when more militaristic leaders took over Persia and then the idea was simply history after Alexander tore the Persian empire apart... Cyrus successfully implemented the first doctrine of human rights, including freedom of religion and speech, Twas so successful he installed local governors, didn’t have to deal with rebellions, even had the mighty Babylonian empire open their gates and ask to become part of Persia.

He’s more recently been recognised as one of the few leaders in all of history to bring peace to the Middle East.

Unfortunately the great problem with Ancient History is the definition of 'history' which requires 'writing'. Who knows how much was lost in the fire that destroyed the great library of Alexandria? and yes what a shame that Imperialists throughout the ages have a tendency to ' raise' their defeated opponents' cultures and cities. Nothing 'binds' people to a cause more than the convenient construction of a deadly and evil common enemy - still works for the worst sort of politician - Aristotle called them demagogues and the lowest form of democracy was rule by the lowest common denominator - ochlocracy. Ironic eh?

In some respects it’s funny how little we’ve learnt and changed.

Got a funny feeling this guy is going to be the most impactful on-field recruit in 2019.
Very well could be. Moving very well on the park - training like he has a point to prove.

He will get more time up on the wing than what he did at Collingwood... Could be a very smart move by Bolts & Co.
