Maybe the most exciting player we have on our list coming back for round 1 next year.

Has the strut and confidence of a quality player - which he clearly is.

It's funny also as why I bumped this thread is had a chat with a mate on our dog walk who said "you guys are gone next year, no decent forwards now Petrie is gone".

I said we have "Brown, Waite and Daw, also Mason Wood being a very exciting lead up and hard running fwd".

Response "Mason who?"

Pretty much sums up how we have quality players coming back that no one really knows about.

I find that pretty exciting to be honest, reckon if we stay fit (big if admittedly) we will prove plenty wrong next year :thumbsu:
I would've had at least three or four mates telling me Mason Wood was North's best young player and one of the comps most exciting big young stars when he was out of contract.

After he re-signed he promptly went back to being a nobody.

Standard scenario regarding any north player tbh. If we had someone like Bontempelli, Cripps or Zach Merrett in our team then they'd get nowhere near the amount of media hype that they do at their respective clubs.

Joel Selwood would get the LT treatment...

Or it's just that we haven't had any young players anywhere near that quality in a very long time?

Have we ever had a team that the media hyped up like no other?
Even at our peak we were the shinboner spirit club a blue colour team that punched above their weight and it was that and Carey's arrogance that got us over the line.
As a team we weren't rated as highly as others, even though we won it..

Except for the back half of 1998.

Whenever that was.

You're massively overstating his potential and deeds up to now. Not that I care, except to note how you will also dump on him once with more games his inevitable flaws emerge alongside his strengths

So you think he doesn't have the potential to be an A-Grader? He is one of a few players on our list who actually has that potential to be elite for his position.

I'm excited about Wood but I don't think he has shown enough to indicate he'll be an A-Grader and neither has Brown. We don't really have any untapped young players that have potential A-Gradeness.

So Sydney would offer 500k x 4 to some nobody?

Really?

Make no mistake, if they had got him, all we'd be hearing about is how young superstar Mason Wood is going to be the difference in season 2017 for the Swans.

Of course they paying Ty that. Of course.

Anyway I didn't post in a Mason Wood thread to debate what money Ty was signed to.
Just your surprise at the Sydney offer. I guess I just wanted to put it in context.

I hope the Hawks realise the AFL will completely **** them over because of their cheating. They started by given them the hardest draw and I'm guessing that's not the end of it. The honeymoon is over.

Cheating. Of course we have. Lol. Love how people eating up the salty narrative pushed by some very unintelligent journalists.

Have a look at the last 10 years. We have been given zero favours draw wise via the AFL. This year's looks pretty good actually :)

My swans supporting friend from Sydney who is a bit of an inner scrote type, reckons that was what was offered.

I'm going with it as he has no reason to lie about it.

They saw him as a 400+ possession 40 goal forward from as early as next season.

That is paying overs, well done to Woody if he rejected an offer of that size to stick with us, says a lot about the character of the guy.

I can't work you out. One minute you're saying the Hawks aren't paying Ty 500k and the next you're saying the Hawks aren't cheating. Which is it? There is no other alternative.

I was very impressed with his ferocity and attack at the ball this year. He was aggressive defensively too which shows he is learning from his past mistakes. I think he is a significantly better player than Brown. I agree its too early to say he's that good tho. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him kick 50+ regularly and rack up possessions forward of the centre over the next 5 or 10 years.

He played 8 games (well 7 1/2 really,) this year, kicked 12 8 and had 114 disposals. That works out to at least 36 goals and 350ish possessions over a full season and a couple of finals. So that is where he is at right now - only a small step away from where your Sydney mate reckons he will be next year.

And he certainly started to improve as he got a run of games in a row in the middle of the year. I could see that improvement coming with a run of 10 games in a row. Be great if he does reach that level next year, better if he goes past it.

I'd stick him in the guts.

Fast, Clean, Huge and defensively much better than he is given credit for.
