The only reason I can see him playing is if we want two rucks against Gawn which I sort of understand. However we really need to stop gifting him games if this is the level he's gonna dish up.
I wouldn’t say he was gifted a game. His performance in the VFL last week warranted a game in the seniors. It’s just a shame that he lacks confidence in the AFL or at least in bringing his skills to the highest level.

People won’t want to hear it but we held up better in the middle when Nank was off then we have in previous weeks

The real problem is his strong lack of marking. If he could hold at least one mark it would be a different conversation

You could give him another ten years of development, he’s still not going to be good enough at AFL level.
A medium/ mid jumped straight over the top of him in a marking contest last night. He might be 206cm, but he has no vertical leap, no body strength, and no athleticism.
We have 3 ruckman under Nank that are taking up list space

That's why people need to stop taking too much stock in our VFL games, Sampson Ryan looks like Godzilla at VFL.
Sonsie dominate VFL but looks like a spud at AFL level.
Samson dominates VFL because he's too tall not because he's too good.

Sonsie is maybe one of a plethora of small mids that are too good for vfl but don't make the cut.

Our football department and selectors really should defer to your world class expertise :thumbsu:

Sorry didn't realise a football department got everything right my bad. Might call Greg Miller and let him know he should get his job back given this fact.

This beanpole is soft, slow, uncompetitive and can't find the football.

Said earlier this week on X that it's now or never time for Samson and last night wasn't the best start to show he belongs long term, but I'm not quite putting a line through him. First game of the year and the way we used him was not ideal. Was coming off the bench, being put forward, where the delivery left a lot to be desired, then a brief runs in the ruck before being benched again. Samson plays his best at VFL level when he can work his way into the game and spend long periods of time as the number 1 ruck and with Nankervis in the side he is never going to get that chance, still it would be handy to at least see him being competitive while he is in the ruck or up forward and quite frankly he wasn't even allowing for the poor delivery/usage. So it will be interesting to see what happens with ANZAC Eve as he'll be asked to play a similar role again and he needs to drastically improve his performance or it's back to the VFL.
