Ryan (206cm) FF from the square
Lynch (199cm) CHF
Riewoldt (193cm ) 3rd foward license to roam

How does the opposition man them up , Who gets the best defender ?
LMFAO even blind Freddie would eliminate Ryan from that conundrum. If that were ever our starting forward line up I'm tipping opposition clubs coaches wouldn't be up til 5am deciding between Ryan and the other 2. More likely Ryan's man would peel off and double team Lynch.

Ok ..............

If you say so

Packed land of the giant forward lines rarely work efficiently. Probably too top heavy. That sort of forward line suggests just bombing it long in hope which is how you lose games in modern footy with the best teams just chopping everything off.

2 talls is probably the happy medium.
Especially if Nank and Soldo are both in the 22.
He might get a handful of games at best if/when there are some injuries, but he needs more development at this stage of his career.

Injured or not in his first game he was 3 seasons away and shouldn't have played on the basis that the conditions were wet that night and he was physically under developed. I'm not holding my breath on him yet until I see him with a bit more muscle on him as at the moment he's resembling a long streak of pelican pooh. He's miles away not based on talent, but strength ,and conditioning.

Also he will never be a Salmon or a Scott Lucas as his playing style is completely different based on what I've seen. He is more in the Shaun Rehn basket and should base his game around him. Rehn was under developed when he appeared on the scene and suffered three ACL injuries bc he was physically immature. So we need to be patient with him and ensure his body is up to the aggressive demands of AFL football. Rehn was 203cm and weighing in at 106Kg, so Ryan needs to get around that weight to be competitive in Ruck contests and around the ground.

From memory Rehn's 1st ACL was slipping on that silly white rubber mat the AFL introduced to the centre circle to make bouncing the ball easier, then he returned too early after that.

Agree with this
But was going to use the Sam Draper (205cm 105kgs)comparison as its more current time player that he could be similar to becoming 'BUT' then i had a look to see how tall Ryan was and his weight - 206cm 104kgs (from the website 2021) and from pictures / footage this year he looks like he has gotten bigger shoulders.

Physically he is just about there in the Rhen/Draper and Ivan Soldo is 204cm 107kgs

I can't believe those figures on Ryan. I haven't seen him at all since last season, so he's obviously putting in the hours in the gym and on a great Nutrional diet.

It's not all about the raw numbers, he might be big on paper at 206/104 which looks huge, but you only need to look at him compared to someone like Nankervis who is "smaller" at 199/102 but would be much stronger and more physically developed.

Grundy is 203/104, but bigger.

Good thing is Samson looks to be filling out a bit, but when he's really physically developed he's probably up around the 107/108kg mark and a lot of that weight is muscle mass. Still has a bit to go in those shoulders, chest and legs.

I agree, I reckon he’s filling out nicely
Wouldn’t be surprised if gets as big as Grundy in couple years

I do think Samson Ryan will be great size when he fills out. 206cm/104kg right now. So once he turns that puppy fat into muscle he’ll be a good size.

The main concern with Ryan like all ruckman is his agility and tank…his VFL form showed he has some ability to ruck and also can finish his chances when up forward.

Very interesting prospect and does make the Coleman-Jones and Chol departure a little easier to swallow.

Just turned 21 so he’s still 3 season away from becoming a genuine ruck selection.

Worth persisting with I think. Hopefully he can keep the VFL form up this year.

No doubts on his agility, that is a clear strength of Ryan’s. His tank, maybe, who knows. I think the main concern at this stage is his body strength.

Not really a roughy, a standout talent for years. Just that Footy up in QLD is still so poorly run and the recruiters don't pay anywhere near enough attention to it.

The Lions and Suns have academies, but they are complete jokes with 500+ kids in them, so there is no real talent development or elite training - so the kids don't improve like they should when in a supposed elite environment. The academy coaches are also very average.

Tigers have six players contracted long term and Ryan is one of them.

26: vlastuin.
25. Lynch.
24: prestia. Dusty. Soldo. Ryan.

They must see something in him
Only 21, and will be all year...we all know big guys develop a few years after other players... in the final year of this contract he'll still only be 23 and when many talls 'start' to impact games.
From what I saw yesterday, he's still a fair way off AFL level as a ruck, even against another young bloke. Did OK and competed hard, but still not clunking marks, and pushed off the drop zone too easily and when he gets a clear tap, didn't be seem to be to advantage. But it's right he should get 2 years to see if he can continue improving. Seems to get around the ground well.

And for a big man a good and long kick plus accurate shot for goal
He'll need to starting taking contested marks for that first though. I haven't seen much of him to be truthful, others may have seen a bit more, but with such limited game time in the last 2 years, it'll be interesting to see his VFL games this year. Hopefully big Colina can arrive soon and free up Sampson with more forward time.
