Seems like the perfect sub rd.1
If Jack is not going, if Lynch is tiring. If Miller is needed back or not doing much 2nd ruck. Stretch Carltons defence if needed.
Can picture Ryan terrorising a tiring and undersized Bloooooze defence in the last qtr in RD1. Cmon Dimma, pick him as the sub at least.

Think we should play Ryan in at least 10 games this year, needs regular senior matches. Offers a lot more potential than Soldo, if he can sort out his goal kicking routine he’ll trouble a lot of defences.

I don’t know why our coaches haven’t tried to sort out his routine? He lined up the goals like Ben Brown but then takes one hand off the ball and swings the ball in from the side to kick.

He's usually reasonably accurate at VFL level. Not too sure his kicking needs too.much work.

If Miller is playing in defence we need someone to provide ruck back up all game. I'd start Soldo or Ryan in Miller's position.
I haven't seen any games so whoever. Although it'd be good to have another look at Ryan at AFL level.
Miller might be needed in defence through the game for one reason or another. He and Balta can still swing through the ruck if necessary, but for me Miller starts forward/bench and rotates. Ryan gives us lots of flexibility. If Tarrant doesn't get up then that's a different thing and Ryan would be the second ruck.

Soldo gives us nothing but ruck relief, he gives nothing forward, last year showed us that, surely we don't need to repeat it again.

Subs can can come in at any time. So poor fom in a game and a player can now be subbed in. It'd be better to have a non KPP type as sub wouldn't it?

depends really. you could go super tactical where you play 1 less tall hoping to be faster than the oppo or hoping for some rain or something but if it fails it would be handy to have a tall to sub on. but in general i'd say sub will most likely just be types like Dow/Ross/Cotch

I love this kid he has all the hallmarks to becoming a jet.
The one attribute that has him above all others is his aggressive nature.
He has the skills and he is a competitive beast.
We are witnessing the development of the next Max Gawn.
He gets to the right positions and is starting to clunk em , it’s in our interests to play him from the get go , also makes oppo defenders think

He’s ahead of Soldo for mine

Miller > Ryan > Soldo for mine right now.

If we're inserting a 3rd tall into the forward line it's at Soldo's expense to also back up ruck. Miller is basically an extra mid and very agile/fast. Has done this role very well. Can Ryan? Interest selection discussion for the coaches.

I have to admit I didn't rate Ryan as a player. I thought he was too uncoordinated to make it as a forward. I have seen enough improvement now to say I was wrong on that. He has a long way to go but I'm excited to see how he can keep developing.

His improvement also means our key forward list stocks go from dire to not so dire.

Be a sigh of relief if Ryan can come on along with Miller & Gibcus.

Nank was ineffective yesterday. Soldo was better.
Nank 24 hit outs from 53 contests 0 marks
Soldo 13 hit outs from 24 contests 5 marks

Marks the discernible difference between the 2.
What about possies, (especially contested) tackles and clearances

Nank easily outplays Soldo in these aspects of the game

Nank had 2 more touches and same clearances. Nank didn’t take a grab. Soldo was better yesterday
I don’t think he was
Nanks touches mainly consisted of contested possessions and he also contributed clearances

Soldo also only had one less turnover compared to Nank despite getting less of the ball

Soldos marks all uncontested as well so we need to look at where the marks were taken

I would have Soldo over Nank when we're up against the likes of Gawn, Grundy, English, Witts, Nic Nat etc. with Miller/Ryan as 2nd ruck since these ruck have both size and ruck craft over Nank, and Soldo at least had the size to compete with them.

If we're up against someone like Sean Darcy, O'Brien, Marshall, Hickey, Lycett, etc. I don't mind Nank with Miller/Ryan, since I personally don't think their ruck craft is miles better than Nank, and the only thing they have over Nank is size.

So why didn’t Nank take them? I think Nank is a better player but yesterday Soldo was better

You must admit that is a pretty lazy argument
Because the ball went to where soldo was in those specific situations?

Who did each player have as match ups? What part of the ground did they look after during general play?
Context is important

Why did the ball go to soldo? . He worked harder? To the correct outlets? 5 times more then Nank did. It’s not a lazy argument it’s a fact backed up by the stats

It is lazy when you choose to look at it without context

Wasn’t Soldo matched up on Gawn around the ground? (Gawn took 8 marks) and had 11 direct score involments
Grundy who Nank was playing on around the ground only took 3 marks with 5 score involments
