5 day breaks then for Bauer & Grey & Blight?
why not
Same as everyone else in the squad ... and Gray is with an A bro
... and the MSD boys did a preseason not planned by Louie so they will be Cherry Ripe to go
... probably need to give Bauer two weeks off to recover from 1 game though lol

Liked Samson’s game. I said to my self before the game that if Samson cannot perform in this game, there is no point persisting with him.

Geelong had two 21 year old Ruckman in
Conway & Neale

As well as De Koning at full back.

Conway - 206cm pure ruckman, physically strong.
- I thought Samson competed well against him, was manhandled at times.. but also manhandled Conway back. That’s just the ruck craft I guess.

Neale - 203cm ruckman/forward, similar role to Samsons.
- decent, played more against our defenders.

De Koning - 204cm key defender. 23 year old (a month younger than Samson)
- good contested mark from Samson, competed well against De Koning.

After finishing the game replay, I was impressed with Samsons performance. Still seems like there isn’t much S&C going into his upper body, but is filling into his frame well. 1 more full preseason in the gym and he could well be a weapon going forward.

Happy for him to play every game for the year, no point developing in the VFL anymore.

Not far enough back ... this week is a must lose

You are right ... of course ... lol

Much better off to leave Jacob in the VFL to get injured there
I get my medical advice from Dr Gonzo

You're the medical specialist. See what happens

Jacob Bauer – who has battled a hamstring injury this year – was also a late withdrawal from the VFL side, May 20 this time with a quad issue.

Cats VFL game was his first in a month 2nd for the year...no way in hell he plays off a 5 day break. Even the next VFL game is a 6 day break, ease him through that.

Given what happened to Prestia off a 5 day break, the club is cautious.

Bauer FMD, can play, but season is gone I'd love to see him settle into the AFL side. Off a 5 day break? Won't happen.

Still don't see it. He's so ........ unathletic. Unbelievably slow, can barely take a mark, can't even compete strongly, ruckwork is non-existent (at least he can sometimes nullify the opposition because he's so tall). He takes an age to change direction which means his leading is very slow and one-dimensional.

OK - maybe the coaching staff see something in him - but he still looks like the tall kid in Year 11. And maybe it's better for him to develop in the seniors than the magoos. And Nank does need a chopout now and then. So I would like to think they are playing him for that reason, and if so we have to trust them.
But the Crows plucked a 28-year old journeyman from the SANFL to play tonight, and he was more effective. Not good (Nank was clearly the best Ruckman on the ground) - but still better than Ryan.

His opponent slipped over one time and he still completely butchered taking a mark unopposed. Idk how it's possible that someone this tall can't mark. I wonder did growing up in QLD mean he never played kick to kick his whole childhood? Kozitsche probably gets a week or 2, time to bring in Trezise and put Tom Brown as a marking option up fwd???? Either that or the mid season picks?

Really he was hugely important to our win last night. Managed to halve a stack of contests and no one else in the forward line was doing that

Some days he’ll cash in with a couple of goals and other games he won’t but no one can question the effort in the last few games
He was directly involved in a couple of goals with some blocking and contesting , give the kid a break , might surprise

Given this blokes struggles, if Baker does choose to go to WC, I wonder if we would be interested in on of their talls plus a 2nd rounder.

They keep mentioning Bailey Williams, I dont know if he's any good, but I am losing faith in Ryan whose VFL form had me hopeful.

Look, he wasn't outstanding, but he wasn't awful.

He only really got outmarked once, and that was a 2v1, but it was a really poor effort none the less.

Outside of that, he at least competed, brought the ball to ground and made a contest.

Theres enough there (and nothing below) to suggest we at least persist with him for now.

He's been in the system for 4 years? I hope he comes good but as of now he's a horrible footballer.

Yeah, that was my take too Hank. There were times when he looked totally out of his depth, but he won a few nice ruck duals through good bodywork and brought the ball to ground in numerous forward line contests. That is a very highly regarded achievement nowadays when intercept marks are so critical to setting up score involvements.

He was able to bring the ball to ground and he did that better than any other game he’s played I think
and he wasn’t really beaten in the Ruck.
But..
Watching the game again he’s not a very good runner at either Fwd or Ruck. He’s not explosive enough as a fwd and doesn’t look to have the stamina to power up and down the ground as a Ruck.
14 HO’s against a 6th gamer who blew up and did a groin as well as a couple of filler inner’s. Nank monstered them.
He didn’t take a contested mark for the game
I counted them…he got to 25 contested attempts which is good and what’s expected of him but outve those 17 where one handed.
I know “bring the ball to ground” and he was only out marked once.
But there where at least half a dozen that if it was a hungry player they would’ve had a go at the mark.
Him and Kosi look like they get distracted by contact if the oppo makes first contact.
He has to take more marks to be worth investing in for the future.
