Squiggle tips Lions at 64% chance -- What's your tip? -- Team line-ups »
The HBF call isn't a bad one. Playing on the wing he lacked the size to be a marking and link up optionI don't mind him but suspect he might be one that doesn't quite make it. If he does stay on the list I don't mind the half back calls at all.
I thought Ham had the stamina to be a running Whitfield type of player. Only has a left leg though, so he'll get found out fairly quickly.
Totally different body shape even though they are the same height range.Lachie Nealedid it.PLAYERCARDSTART9Lachie Neale

And even if he does....can he carry the extra weight and and retain the running ability that is his main attribute? Its a small frame so maybe not.
I wouldn't even try to bulk him up - just try to get him wiry strong and hard bodied like a Kade Simpsonor Bob Murphy, turn him into a running machine and see if he can play like that. Fletch another example of a skinny guy who seemed to play to his strengths rather than try and change his body shape. If he cant then he just wasn't cut out for AFL footy.PLAYERCARDSTART6Kade Simpson

...in timeA running machine who averaged 10 possessions

I still think there is hope for the kid. He's faster, more run, better kick and better football than Gleeson.
Next year will be crucial as at 22 he'll need to establish himself in the 22.
He's got a similar frame to someone like Kade Simpsonwho took a few years to get there.PLAYERCARDSTART6Kade Simpson

... but if he is still out of contract and not signed for next year, the writing is on the wall and no one in the club believes he has the capacity to make it. Might be one of those delisted, re rookied scenarios that never works out.
We have new people.Add Brad Hill and Andrew Gaffto the list of the sizes and shapes that look well within Ham's ability to match.PLAYERCARDSTART3Andrew Gaff

The flaw in this is that we're talking about very good players, A grade players. It is possible these players are so good that their bodies are irrelevant.
I just read that Ham needs to bulk up and I wonder what it is we are talking about. Growing into an adult frame which is what the others did or "bulking up" to something he does not need to be to have an AFL career.
If our strength and conditioning cannot put 5 kgs on him then we need new people. I recall David McKay being drafted pencil thin.
They are both more solid. We have new people.
He is 21 and 70kg. Even if he puts on 5kg he is still only 75kg.
Brad Hill is 79 kg. Gaff is 85kg.
There is pencil thin and then there is pretzel thin.

I'd suggest it's as much as our strength and conditioning staff as anyone
This is also trueBasically all aspects of player development at Essendon fu**in suck. Just one part of it.
