AFL star Cyril Rioli yesterday remembered his uncle Maurice Rioli as a "loving" man who gave his family a name.
Bare-chested and with ochre paint, Cyril Rioli farewelled the national football legend at a traditional funeral on Melville Island - about 100km north of Darwin.
The young Hawthorn dynamo, who has his surname proudly tattooed in bold letters on his upper back, said he appreciated what his uncle had done for him.
"He really helped our family out with making a name," he said.
But he said he mainly remembered Rioli for what he did off the field.
"He cared for his family and he loved his people," he said.
