It's no slight on players to only get so far, some are naturals and some aren't. I hope for Pickett's sake that he's happy no matter how things turn out as far as his footy is concerned. However, I don't care about the extra list spot given how things panned out but perhaps SOS should have seen the writing on the wall to begin with and maybe Jarrod should have been traded to a WA club and not us.

His foot injury at GWS and knee with us are both very significant impact injuries completely unrelated to preparation or condition, if a player cops one of those in a career they are unlucky and he had both by age 22, add to that the wrist and it's ridiculous to suggest 'it's all above the shoulders' or he 'didn't really want it bad enough', know one would know that but him

Bit hard to show passion when your body breaks down constantly. That said, if he turned up in decent shape to preseason training his body may have held up.

Sad to see it end like this. His pace was a real weapon. Not many as fast as Jarrod. I wish him good luck.
I reworded that slightly, it's hard to know how to define the words 'football brain' and when to apply it.

What a shame, another talented player that we will never know exactly how good he have been. Crappy timing but... Best of luck.

It's frustrating, probably didn't really have the hunger to drive him to become a genuine AFL player but had the talent and athleticism. Injuries didn't help. Hopefully he can go back and play some WAFL and get himself back into the system.

What might have been Jarrod. A lot of struggles mate. Hope you can get yourself well and be able to get out and play footy in whatever league at whatever level. Know you love the game and have some extraordinary talents
It would be a shame to not get some enjoyment from it.
All the best, take care.

From the Carlton website:
We could have put him on the LTI and replaced him, we obviously didn't see anyone we wanted.
We had one open list spot after last year's drafts, then we had 2 go down with injury, 1 leave the club and we brought in 3 players once you include Deluca.

The odd one out here is Docherty, forget what the official AFL forms and media release reads. Pickett's spot was taken by one of Cottrell, Deluca or Gibbons, we just don't know which.

Either way we could have taken another player if we wanted, pretty sure?

FYI:

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/12/16/could-carlton-add-two-state-level-players-to-its-list/

Carlton had 1 list spot free to go to the mid season draft, 2 after Doch went down, 3 after Bugg quit.

Gibbons, Cottrel and Deluca.

The timing of this is really disappointing, not only have we wasted a lot of time on a guy who has constantly had commitment issues, he leaves a few weeks after the chance to replace him.

More than likely he didn’t leave on his own accord.
Wrist injury last year & turned up in poor shape for pre season..says a bit.
I doubt Russell would be keen on keeping someone not rehabbing to his his desired program either.
Le.ts say mutual.....but maybe not!

Good luck to him in the future anyway...p.s. don’t go the Yarran path

Damn. After Pickett did his wrist i just assumed he'd be back soon burning up the turf with his run. Sadly things didn't turn out well for him at CFC.

Good luck Jarrod. After a bit of time off hope you decide to give footy another go, where ever that might be. :thumbsu:
