Deserved a game in the back end of last season, particularly during his patch of really strong form. An indictment on the previous coaching team.
Denied by Teagues influence on list management too. List spots are a premium and we've wasted at least one, probably 2.

Inexcusable that Ramsay didn’t get a game over two years yet we were crap AND Newnes played enough matches in 2021 to force the club into a contract extension. It’s negligence. Weather he can go on to an Afl career or not.
We’ve just delisted a guy who is an elite kick.

cant believe ramsay is gone and we have newnes by default due to his games played trigger
I can't believe with such a history of structurally imbalanced lists and on-field underperformance that we even give such a clause out for anyone other than the top 10% of our list.

This one genuinely shits me to tears.

He naturally finds space. He's not lightning, but he's quick. He's wonderful by foot, a fierce tackler and a decent endurance athlete. He lacked game nous coming in, but had plenty to work with. He had a number of 25+ disposal 5+ tackle games. He was a safe kick kicking inside forward 50.

Seriously, **** the AFL for list size reductions. We finally - FINALLY - get our act together concerning development, and the ****wits at AFL house decide that teams are not allowed the full 45 list size. I get reducing football department bloat and club expenditures, but this particular rule change seems almost directly pointed at clubs like us. A club like Geelong or Sydney - with fully realised development setups and a well established seconds comp producing footballers through the pipeline - can take the hit, delisting a good 3-5 players pretty easy with the knowledge that their setup will produce more footballers where they came from. Us though; we don't know if we should be confident or otherwise with our setup, because it's not established yet. Players don't know whether to trust us when we say we can turn you into an AFL footballer.

It's hard getting a berth in the first place. I don't know if he'll make it outside of Carlton, because a lot needs to go right to even end up on an AFL list. There's any number of AFL capable players playing park footy - or would, if Covid hadn't ****ed that too - and Sam Ramsay now joins their ranks.

Best of luck, Sam. Hope someone else picks you up and you go on to become the player I believed you could be.

Yeah not happy about this delisting at all.

Same with fraser Phillips as a rookie the year before (I know he didn't do much in the VFL this year). Got one year as a rookie where he didn't get to do anything but okay scratchies, very stiff. List reductions are very frustating

I know the numbers game and list sizes etc but geez if this doesn't strike me as one of the most bizarre delistings in my time here.

Had plenty to work with and did plenty to push for selection during a very difficult period. As little as one or two games at the higher level surrounded by better players may have been enough to know we had a player in the works. But no... the usual suspects picked every week.

You think that players like Murphy getting coddled to 300 as the sub (where you often play part of the game) is probably okay and you justify it to yourself at the time, then a kid like this is gone without even getting to see what he could do coming on fresh in a second half.

Really flat with this one.

Probably showed more than some still on the list. Reductions in list sizes are a pain. Would hope we relist him at some stage, if we persisted with him like we have with some others I bet he would end up better.

It's name is David.
geez, I wish I could work somewhere that meant any time I got let go it was the boss's fault - I could sleep heaps easier knowing I'd done nothing wrong

Well, it was the boss's fault he couldn't satisfy his wife.

I mean, what else, realistically, could Sam Ramsay do to press for selection?

He played inside mid, and got 30 disposals and 8 tackles. He played a wing, and got 28 disposals and 5+ tackles. He got sent to a HBF (because we don't have enough HBF) and got 25+ disposals and a few marks. He runs both ways. He tackles. He finds the ball. He isn't slow as a wet week, and he didn't drop his head when repositioned. He worked hard.

Does he get rewarded at any point? Nope. Does he get a chance to play ones ahead of the other options in his positions? Nope; got to hit that games trigger for Jack Newnes, and Ed's our most important player, can't drop him. Jack Martin's half fit; he's surely better than a bloke who's kicked 2 and had 30+ the week before.

I can bear with you blaming SPS for his failings, but this one sticks in my teeth, Thy. There is not a single thing more we as a club could've asked from Ramsay in two Covid affected years. This is as unjust a delisting as there is.

This, agree with every point.

From the outside he had an ideal 2nd season VFL run of form until the season was called off.

Sure. But it happened and no-one here knows anything other than the club hasn't included him in its future planning. Call me crazy, Gerry, but if it's us guys on BF or the team whose job it is to weigh these decisions up, I go with the CFC every time. But yeah, puzzling for sure.

I'd argue the club doesn't back itself; otherwise we'd never have called a review. Newnes is still there because he hit a games trigger; Ed was still signed by the old regime.

We're getting into supposition, so I'm probably going to leave it there. Suffice to say, I'd have lost both from the list ahead of Ramsay, and I'm angry he's been let go before they were.

And I'm annoyed at the AFL, for waiting until we've finally set up a decent development setup producing quality returns - albeit at VFL level - before bringing in the list size reductions. I'm not saying it was deliberate, but for ****'s sake when we decided to play a team of kids they cut runners, when we started getting father-sons coming through they changed the bidding rules, and when we started to hit AFL size standards they changed the rules to reduce the interchange cap further.

At what point are they going to change the rules in such a way as to impact us positively?

Not sure their remit includes appeasing the CFC.

Dont think we should blame the old regime for extending Ed and Newnes, they were contract triggers and Sayers already had his feet under the desk. There are others that were/are OOC

But, the decision to let Ramsay go was strange

Selection integrity was ****ed up. Wasted development . IMO
