We have been hearing this for 16 month's now, the fact is that Essenscum have managed to muddy the water's and they have succeeded. The AFL will pull out all the stops to make sure this is swept away like they have for Essendon wroth the salary cap cheating etc. I hope you guys are right but I'm not holding out any hope.
The Alex Rodriguez scandal took almost half a decade. if not longer, from start to finish, before he was finally found guilty and then it continued through his appeal process. It hasn't been eighteen months yet.

If anyone -- AFL, ASADA -- try and fudge this then WADA will step in. There is far too much importance hinging on this case on a world wide sense. People who haven't done so already really need to start comprehending the scope of this in regards to global ramifications. The AFL is but a small pea in the global sporting pond. Even the AFL itself would acknowledge this. If they get away with murder then it sets an example that could (would) likely destroy a mega industry such global football (soccer) leagues where thousands upon thousands of millions of dollars are at stake.

Sadly, aside from ASADA's mess (which is on them) of having turnover of administration executed poorly, it's a long process in and of itself. Too much hanging on it to screw it up.

ASADA's only mistake was working in tandem with the AFL in order to deliver them an interim report to expel the cheats from last years final series. This was a compromise they were probably best to avoid as it raises questions around sharing of information and confidentiality.

Otherwise the timeline of this investigation is not excessive, or undue as we are talking about an "investigation", not a positive test result. This requires a severely under-resourced and undermanned government body to gather and collate information to justify bans. If anyone thinks they could've done this any quicker has rocks in their heads. They had to deal with organisations that were deliberately deceitful and two-faced and trying to undermine them the whole time. AFL included.

The ADVRP debacle has nothing to do with ASADA, it was just a BIG **** up by Dutton who should've been asked to step aside for this absurd error. ASADA are doing the best they can and I have no qualms with their actions and time to execute

How is that so? Isn't that the role of government to manage that?
Shouldn't it be the role of the government department, in this case ASADA, to appoint new people to its board?

My partner previously worked in the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine and had a number of staff join (and leave) in her time there. Every time it was her boss that made the administrative hiring decisions. Therefore I ask that you excuse me if my presumption that it was the same across other levels is inaccurate.

Depends on the act that administers the entity and who you are appointing.

Some need to be approved by the Minister and the Governor/Governor-General.

ASADA really has nothing to do with the ADRVP. It's the role of the sports minister to ensure that places on the ADRVP are kept filled up. Allowing that many people to leave at a time when he would have known that ASADA was about to start issuing show cause letters smacks of severe incompetance at the least... or corruption at the extreme.

Someone's head should have rolled for that one.

At the very start of all this - didn't the CIB get involved ?

I think this has gone on for a long time, and there have been new powers added. My thinking is that we are focusing on the most recent revelations, and also presume based on the vast amounts of leaked info that we are across all the allegations and breaches.

I think we may have our eyes opened with what is finally laid down on the charge sheet, and of course, reminded from the original CIB involvement (if that is the case, long time ago now).

I think as Dramoth said, the ADRVP is a function of the government rather than ASADA. It seems to be what people have been saying for a while now, and the news articles all point to the minister's office for the lack of control there.

It was a bad blue, nothing more and you get that in govt departments. The problem has been quickly rectified and in the context of the time frame we are looking at with this thing it was a glitch, that's all. We are coming to the pointy end now and all we can do is hope it gets jammed fair up the EFC clacker.

Marathon star banned for two years
Liliya Shobukhova has been banned for two years by the national track and field athletics federation’s anti-doping panel.

The 36-year-old was banned based on abnormalities in the haematological profile of her biological passport, which indicates a high probability of blood doping.

The ban will be backdated to January 24, 2013 and will end on January 23, 2015.

Two year ban for blood doping.

What's the going rate for off site injections of banned drugs?

Interesting that the ban was backdated. Saad's suspension was backdated to August 20, 2014. Here comes the wet lettuce leaf in the form of a ban that will be backdated to the year they cheated.

It doesn't say when the samples were taken, but it could be that the reason the ban was backdated was because the abnormal sample was taken back around that date and she hasn't been allowed to compete since then...

You're right. Backdated to the last date that she raced.

This is the odd thing about this Essendon* scenario... if it was athletics, you'd be immediately banned based on the suspicion you'd done the wrong thing...

Either way, I suspect there will be no back dating for Essendon* if they're found to have breached the rules.

I think that you have that one right. The AFL has blissfully gone about it's business and hasnt stood down any players involved in the supplements scandal. Even when Jab confessed on live TV to being injected with prohibited substances, they stood around and did nothing.

This leads me to believe that come the end of it all, these guys are going to be screwed.

I also love how Fat Vlad has pulled the pin and handed over to McLachlan early... he knows a shit storm is coming and wants to be a long way away from it when it smashes into ground zero... the head of the AFL's face. I am expecting Fat Vlad to sell his place in Oz real soon and take up residence in the UK so that he can go and work for some sporting body as the head administrator over here. He could even make a play to take over from Sepp Blatter in a couple of years... after all, who better to learn the art of corruption from than the guy who runs the most corrupt sporting body in the world.

Ohh... McLachlan is optimistic announcing that

Essendon drug verdict 'within weeks'
ESSENDON should learn within a month whether ASADA will lay charges over the club’s supplements scandal.

On the same day that Gillon McLachlan was confirmed as the new AFL chief executive, retired Federal Court judge Garry Downes was due to hand in his report on the AFL and NRL.

His report to the anti-doping authority will not be made public as it is part of the ongoing ASADA investigation.
Essendon drug verdict 'within weeks'

Good on him for announcing that it will be over in weeks. Everyone knows that charges will be forthcoming... it's just the number of players to be charged thats an unknown.

Resolution on this issue is a bit like the Carlton injury list. Might say 2-3 weeks, but that really means 5-6 weeks. Still, each time we hear 2-3 weeks, we are just that little bit closer... lol

President GMac said show causes if handed out would be towards the end of May and who's to say they are made public unlike Dank who leaked his own.
I heard him say end of May, but I thought it was more to do with the AFL learning what was in the report after it has been through ASADA.
It's dragged on this long - wouldn't surprise me one bit if it drags out until the end of the year.

Rebecca Wilson, stated on the radio earlier that her information is that the Judge has come to the conclusion that there is evidence for other cases to go forward.

She stated that they will be from both codes, the AFL and NRL.

Interesting where she gets her info from or if she has cred, 12 players named must be nervie.

They will only be made public if those receiving them choose to do so.

I would envisage if any players receive show cause notices the club's solicitors will ensure it is kept under wraps & a full & thorough response is made to the notices, unlike Dank's grandstanding & threats of court action. Should Hird get one (which I think is likely), expect a media circus.
