How long until a few lawyers get in some players ears and suggest that they will help them go up against the EFC?
My thoughts exactly.

Still cannot fathom how the Dons have managed to keep the players on their side...would of thought their best way out would be to seperate themselves from the club in this issue.

I am just waiting for an ex-EFC player to flip. Prime example would be Crameri. He is a 4 year investment for the WB, who are unlikely to make the finals this year or next but could be challenging there after. So is it in the best interest for Crameri/the WB to accept a 6 month voluntary suspension effective immediately and be ready to play again some time next year or to allow the EFC to mount his defense, drag out the process for another 18 month-2 years (by which time the WB may be pushing for the finals again) and then be suspended for 12-24 months?

I can understand the EFC trying to draw out the process as long as possible so they can turn over their list (to some extent) and be less effected when IN are FINALLY implemented in a season or two (although no-one would touch an EFC now so they would rely on retirements to free up list spots) but what would be in it for Crameri? Worst case, he sues the EFC for a loss of income/damages to his career, is back playing for the WB by the end of the 2014 season and he can move on without this crap hanging over his head.

Guys if you're interested I also sent show cause notices to my Essendon supporting acquaintances as to why they shouldn't be ridiculed until the end of time.
Did the same to my brother and based on his answer of "they are not accused of taking drugs" he has another 9 days to come up with something better or I will issue an Infraction Notice.

Two years of not having to listen to his delusional football rantings may be just the tonic I need.

I doubt Crameri has any info left to give. The EFC kept the players in the dark, shredded the documents & ignored Dank when he said that he had a list of injections given. What info can he give ASADA?

I bet some of those "No win no fee" personal injury lawyers are already trying to sign players up.

The only possible way for EssADA* to hang onto the entire playing group is by paying the ridiculous amount of legal fees this is going to cost and reminding the players that if any of them are found guilty they will all hang.

The financial impact of this debacle will be felt for decades as will the personal costs.

I think Timmy Watson's suggestion that the players were "shocked" is telling.

The club, quite clearly, have LIED to the players when declaring that they don't know what was taken, but they are sure it was legal.

It sounded only marginally smarter coming from Little than it did from Spike, but the spin is just that spin.

It is also why the idea of EFC paying legal bills for players is extremely dubious. Am staggered the ALFPA didn't cut that off at the knees.

When the lawyers line up against EFC, eventually, it's game over.

Reckon the players have been in the loop since Day One. Right now, it's pretty much one in, all in..........they have to keep their stories straight.

The fellas that have left the club however, by crikey this is gunna be like bringing down the mafia.

Melbourne Victory 'til I die!
But they all just seem like brainwashed fools who are easily led astray. These players and most of the club are like the Branch Davidians! They're prepared to sacrifice all for their evil leaders!!!
Psychotic

Dead right. Think the club have said that they will pay for the lawyers and pay salaries one way or another if they are suspended. Whereas if they get their own lawyers and go after the club they have to pay huge lawyers fees as they go and deal with all the stalling and conniving of the club's legals.

Sticking with the club is the easy option.

Listening to the CEO of ASADA talking to on the radio, it seems pretty likely that ASADA are going to go after Essendon. The ramifications for the AFL and all clubs could be quite serious. If 34 players get suspended then their contracts will have to be honoured. How many of them will sue for loss of earnings for incurring a penalty effectively ending their careers and/or devaluing their market value? Essendon must go on and if they were forced to take a year or two off then the future of the club has to be in jeopardy. You are talking about a business which turns over 50 million dollars and employs hundreds of people. If Essendon does continue then we will have a further severely compromised draft and they will probably have to trowel the VFL and patch together a team. They will be stuck with a second salary cap which all clubs will have to contribute. All up I can see this costing up to $100 million dollars if not more.

Finally we have James Hird. This all happened under his watch. Was Hird just as much a victim as the players and the rest of the club? Perhaps, however other clubs could see that Essendon was doing something different as Ratten saw first hand when they monstered Carlton. It's a bit like your kid coming home with 10 grand per week and telling you that he got lucky at the TAB. You either find out the truth or turn a blind eye and hope he is not doing anything untoward. After all you did brief him on obeying the law, so you are in the clear.

How Essendon could possibly even contemplate reinstating Hird beggars belief. His brand is trashed and no matter how much he and Tanya scream and shout the buck stops with him. If he does not accept this then
he is wasting his money on the course he is undertaking. I suspect that Essendon and the AFL have now been targeted by the big boys in world doping so they can be seen to make an example of an organization.

The cost to the AFL and all football supporters will be immense and the AFL will be keen to claw back a lot of the money, however the footy public has already voted with its feet and attendances are significantly down. The FFA must be watching all this unfold and finally see their chance to really make inroads into AFL territory.

Essendon Football Club coach Mark Thompson has thanked fans for their ongoing support of the club.
Thompson called on fans to get behind the club ahead of their clash against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

In a special message to supporters, the Bombers’ coach urged fans to paint the MCG red and black against the Demons.
“We are working hard and we want you to back our boys,” Thompson said.
“Keep with us and stay loyal.”
“Turn up to game especially this week against Melbourne and keep supporting us.”
“We love what you have done and now is a critical time to join the fight to get the Bombers back to where they should be.”

Fans are encouraged to tweet their messages of support for the players using #BackOurBoys
