Has McBean ever rucked in the seconds? I agree with others on here that think he doesn't play tall. He is not a good mark and I don't see him as a ruckman. So if he can't play tall and is not a ruckman, what makes people think he can play tha role at AFL level?

He is developing...no one can argue he's not. However, he is not a forward / ruck. He is a forward. And still very much a developing forward.

IMO he is a backup to Vickery and not Griffiths. And Vickery is miles ahead of him so not an option unless Vickery is dropped or injured.
He has done quite a bit

I'm not sure where this dogma about Bean not being a good mark is coming from. He's got good hands. Obviously he's not great in a body on body wrestle but he regularly hauls in a few good marks on the lead and out of packs. He's definitely better than Vickery and of late, Griffiths (who oddly used to be a superb mark but I can't remember him clunking any recently).

He also regularly plays ruck to various degrees of effectiveness.

Iyo do you think he has what it takes to become a very good #1 ruckman.
Atm he seems to me to be almost a clone of Vickery and Griffiths where he does neither role very well.In fact he has been so poor he can't force either of them out as bad as both have been at times.

How would you describe Vickery's Griffith's and Mcbean's development?
Lets face it there is development where players actually show significant improvement, then there is development where any sort of improvement is unbelievably slow if at all.. This can be said for all three of the ruck/fwds.

Oh Great Beanus....where for art thou ?

Our Beanie who arnt there at the G
Hallowed be thy frame
The goals they come, they will be done
On turf as it is in heaven
Give us this week, our saviour Beanie
And forgive us for our trespasses
As we forgive those who play against us
Lead us into the 2nd week of the finals
and deliver us from Griffiths
For thine is the Kingdom
For ever and ever
Yellow and black

we know what we get from TV, 2 to 4 goals a game and not much else and Griffo a bit of pinch hit in the ruck and not much else

I say we try TV as 1st Ruck and Mcbean and Jack as fwds

not much to lose

and it worked for Benny Gale

Hah hah hah.....full marks.

We've never lost with McBean in the team.

I think the lack of faith in him despite kicking bags of goals in the VFL in the past 3 seasons is ridiculous.

I would say now is the time to play him as opposed to later in the year when he is in the form Hardwick so unfairly demands. Give him a run when his morale is down because it will lift him up and he may become the saviour we have been hoping for.

I just don't get the fear; West Coast, Hawthorn, Sydney, and now Adelaide all have highly potent tall forward lines that work. We seem to think just playing talls is acceptable but Griffiths doesn't score goals and isn't Richo on the wing (who still scored 48 goals in 2008). We need to bite the bullet and stick with players who score goals and put scoreboard pressure on the opposition.

16 disposals, 5 marks, 14 hitouts and no scoring, is not sufficient for a back-up ruckman/forward for two games.

I'm not sure what McBean can offer, but it's time we found out.
I've seen what Giff offers - not much; Vickery needs a defined role and let him go at it.
It's staggering that we have basically neglected drafting key position talent since taking McBean, with the exception of McKenzie.
Think about it ..... Rioli, Broad, Markov, Lambert are flank city. Ditto for C. Ellis, Menadue, Drummond, Butler, Castagna flank city. Lennon, Lloyd, Gordon get thee to the flanks. Vlastuin and McDonough flank flank. It's a deplorable draft strategy.
Then we have Dimma saying rubbish like we "didn't have Griffiths v the Crows" ... yeah because we dropped him for non-performance.
Logic suggests if you drop a tall forward, you pick another, not a forward pocket!

classic :)

With all the ex Port staff at the club surely we can turn this guy into a Westhoff clone.
Similar build and height, smart player with good skills. Would like to see him given a run at half forward and let Jack stay in the 50.

Can we just see what this guy does in the seniors Hardwick & co.? I can't see why not at the moment. It is not like we are winning a lot of games at the moment

If the reason is because we don't want to gift players games, well, we tend to gift players a spot in our seniors anyway. Might as well "gift" a spot to a guy who kicked 5 goals in the VFL this week for you (and does that regularly) if you gift games to anyone. We also may as well try something new in our forward line given that we are just not scoring enough right now.

Just piss TV off all together he just does not have the ticker. Play the Bean and Jack forward Plonk Elton into the side as a RUCK/DEF whos likely match up will be Pederson. . Big Ivan is ready to play #1 ruck and Elton will give him a better chop out than Vickery ever will.

Do people remember his game against the Pies last year? He presented very well, made some good contests even when he was outnumbered, and we scored literally every single time he got near the ball. He should come in for Astbury, allowing Chaplin to go back.

Thought he was very underrated for those games ......who was he dropped for after those games ??

He needs to back it up.

At the moment he has only kicked 28 goals in his last 8 games and averaged two contested marks a game over that period.

Further he has only kicked 123 goals in 47 games.

If he backs it up over three or four more seasons and gets his speed up to Jetta status and his ruckwork to Goldstein status then he might be worth a try.

Too risky otherwise to play a natural forward who cant stop kicking goals. It will mess up the game-plan no end!

agree with everyone here, get McBean in!!!

If it's ok to tinker with one of the leagues best defences in the name of a mini-rebuild (and stuff it up), then it's absolutely OK to tinker with other parts of the team structure which are disfunctional anyway.

Whatever personal has gone on between Dimma and McBean, time to be bigger men about it, how the guy hasn't played I don't know.

Does RichmondOfficial read all these threads? Cause I've had it, we pay the wages of everyone down at the club, it's about time we got an explanation as to why the likes of McBean and Elton don't even get NAB cup games. Has there even been any official statement on McKenzie's troubles? Or are we just to be satisfied with what we hear from insiders on here?

The club needs to be accountable to its paymasters (i.e. us, or at least the paying members of us), if the guys we fund to be out there aren't getting picked, when the guys who do get picked aren't up to scratch, let's hear why. And if it's something personal then for chrissakes get over it.
*edit, I mean personal between coach and player, not re. why McKenzie needs some time off
