Patto ended up at the Saints. To be fair we haven't really let anybody of quality go. The only ex-Tigers in recent memory that have ended up at Hawthorn are Adam Pattison and Carl Peterson.
Must have missed that one. I only recall seeing him touch the ball once. Where did I say I was writing him off? Go back and read what I actually wrote rather than making crap up. If he was injured, he shouldn't have played. I want him to succeed but my doubts are growing with every game I've see him play since about mid-late last year (I haven't seen every game so I probably missed a couple of good ones)Firstly, you're wrong - he kicked a goal. Secondly, he was carrying a leg injury all week. He didn't train, and he was visibly limping at the game. Not sure you can write him off on that one game.

Having watched a fair bit of VFL, he's just not consistent enough. Even when he kicks 3-4 goals, that's often all he does. At the next level up, he won't get nearly as many opportunities so he needs to work harder and find more strings to his bow. He seems to have either hit a plateau or reached his peak. Hopefully it's the former because he has some great traits for AFL footy but I'm worried they won't translate to the top level.
I hope he gives himself the chance to get a few senior games before a decision is made on him at the end of the year.
Outside of Miles, there isn't one player on our list that has really earned their right to play AFL with consistent form in the VFL.
Griffiths, Hunt, Morris , Lloyd, Gordon.... were all selected when they weren't performing or after 1 decent game, yet a different set of rules apply to a player with more talent than the lot of them.
Until we give him the opportunity to play at the top level and build his game at the top level, we don't know shit about how good or bad he is.
It was a similar situation with Dea who got overlooked because we were hanging on to Newman. Dea has look by now means out of place in the AFL playing for Essendon yet we were too reluctant to play him.
We've seen him in 2 games and show nothing. He'd absolutely have to be bashing down the door to get selected. Griffiths has been back two games and has already showed much more.
It's like the club persists with the tried players because they don't want to admit they stuffed up the picks to get those players. In the mean time they don't do the club any favours by not playing those like McBean enough as it doesn't improve the depth of our list.
He might be useless and very well but he should at least be given more than 2 games in 4 years to prove his worth at AFL level. It speaks volumes of the way our list is handled.
I understand what you mean, of course he will be up and down esp. at senior level, just like Griff, Vick. But as so many of us have said, just give him a chance!Youre missing my point. He won't kick even close to 3-4 at AFL level. A lot of the goals he kicks at VFL level are cheapies. He won't get that many chances at the top level. He barely went near the ball on Sat and didn't even have a single shot on goal.
I agree 100% he should have played more games last year when he was actually playing good footy. It was terribly short sighted by the club to drop him when he showed some decent signs. Castagna didn't show anymore than him and has been guaranteed another game this week.Outside of Miles, there isn't one player on our list that has really earned their right to play AFL with consistent form in the VFL.

That said, I don't think giving a game while out of form would possibly send the bloke even further backwards. If our season keeps going the way it's going and he doesn't get a game then I'd be happy to join youse all and help burn Punt Rd to the ground. ☺
I agree. I reckon something is going on that were not seeing.I understand what you mean, of course he will be up and down esp. at senior level, just like Griff, Vick. But as so many of us have said, just give him a chance!
Inexplicable that he didnt even get a NAB game. In the absence of injury, one is forced to the conclusion that he has been 'blacklisted' for some reason.
I'm confident he'll get his chance. He's 21 FFS
Yeh Sicily is also in a team that knows how to deliver the ball into the forward line.Compare him to what Hawthorn has done with James Sicily, Sicily is only 4 month younger than Liam.
McBean drafted in 2012 202cm 94 kg
Sicily drafted 2013 186cm 79kg
Sicily played 16 VFL matches last season for 30 goals, McBean equal best with 42 goals.
Sicily played no AFL games in 2014 and 3 games in 2015 (2 of which were in the last couple of rounds). He has played in all 6 games this year even after looking out of his depth in Round 1 against Geelong. Difference is Hawthorn still played him and look at the kid now. Full of confidence and playing good footy.
At Richmond we have a forward who knows how to kick goals yet we choose not to play him because he isn't ready and is only lightly built .... FFS

Jack struggles to take marks inside 50 with our team, how would Mcbean go.

I have no idea about whether McBean can make it at AFL level or not. He just hasn't been given enough opportunity at AFL level for me to form an opinion. I think RFC needs to play him in the Seniors for 6 - 8 weeks straight regardless of his output just so they can determine whether he is capable of an AFL career.
You do realise Griffiths career stats are similar to McBeans in 2 games.
Give McBean the luxury of time to adjust and see what happens .

huh? So we should give a game to Mcbean as a forward because after 2 games he slightly worse career stats than Ben who has played as a back, ruck and forward?

Exactly. Not really sure why people are so dead against giving McBean senior time, seriously what do we have to lose now? The season is shot anyway and if McBean gets 6 games on the trot and is bloody hopeless then at least then you can say I told you so.
More like ChaosDan discussing the plan with Benny

If Mcbean starts kicking bags of 4 and 5 again and lifts his workrate then i have no doubt he'll force his way in again. No we should give a game to McBean because Griffiths has had the time McBean hasn't to prove he isn't AFL material
