Second time I've watched the Bean this year and both times he has left me underwhelmed. Seems that unless the game is played on his terms he just doesn't work hard enough to get involved. In both games the opposition has sat a loose man in front of him and instead of getting on his bike and moving around to create space for himself he just accepts his fate and hoists the white flag. IMO this is what is keeping him from taking that next step.

So he does what Vickery does.

If this is the case and he has been (excuse the pun) in the system so long then it would seem he isn't going to make it.

This is a behavioral issue which sounds like no one can fix except McBean himself and given he would have been instructed what he needs to do then simply he can't be bothered. No point retaining players like this, trade and bring in a kid willing to learn.

In comparison Chol sounds like he has taken on board constructive critisism in 5 minutes and is already going past McBean at a rate of knots so it goes to prove that if players apply themselves it can be done.

Sounds like Vickery. He gets a game.

I know for a fact that McBeans biggest critic is himself. He knows he needs to find a way to become more involved but perhaps hasn't been developed accordingly or potentially everything he has tried just hasn't worked.

What one good game and he has already gone past McBean who himself kicked five goals the week before and once again is top five in the VFL goal kicking.

If true about him being his own biggest critic then that's a great attitude but it also tells me he simply doesn't have the coaching structure around him to assist him to get to the next level.

Therefore I assume the same could be said regarding a number of other stagnating players we have or have had. On this basis then it's really time we cleaned out our development coaches considering not much has been developed from the VFL for a long time.

As someone completely outside of the club environment it would seem to me that having relied on moneyballing for so long that the development side of things has been neglected completely.

Now we are in a position where the mature age recruits have plateued and we have no one coming through to take their place. This is especially worrying when we also seem to struggle to attract any decent young talent to the club via free agency, you really have to wonder where our quality players will come from over the next 5 years.

My opinion goes as follows:

This guy has 2 senior opportunities, whereas Griffiths and Vickery had many. Neither of these two were knocking down the door in the VFL so I don't understand why people are writing him off.

This guy needs to regularly play alongside someone like Jack Riewoldt. Riewoldt can teach him so much and can give him directions in games on the field. He needs to develop alongside someone like him and not in a side that loses to Frankston. You will only stagnate his development that way. You din't want to do that to a guy who shows so much promise

How long did it take Jack Watts to become good? A while. Is he decent now? Yes. How well would he have gone had he just remained at Casey until he becomes good? You can't expect every player to become that way. Some need to be exposed to challenges beyond what they are used to in order to flourish.

The club owes us it's existence, if only it was some self-funded entity!! Think of all the revenue streams in the AFL, they all lead back to the fans (or pokie addicts, I grant you that!).

Now when was the last time you had a paying job where you weren't accountable to the pay-master? And if so, where do I sign up?

As I made especially clear with my edit, I don't want to know any personal details of any player. But I would like to see statements from the club such 'player x has taken time off for personal reasons' or 'player y who is top goal kicker in the VFL can't even get a NAB cup game because...'

Hope that makes it clearer for you.
Of course, we are all accountable to the pay master. In saying that, one thing that I do not divulge to my boss or any boss for that matter is my private affairs. I will give you the lee way in the sense that there are many private affairs most people feel more than comfortable to express (sometimes way to much) on the other hand there are private matters that just need to be left and respected as just that

Clearly we won't see the Beanster until the season is beyond hope, and we need to trust that the club has a good reason for that, whatever it may be, and that they know best.
I've come to accept these things now.

The club is happy that he is getting on his bike when opposition clubs try to play a spare defender in front of him .
He just has some work to do to build up his tank to unable him to sustain the effort all game .

Assuming inside word and not opinion? Makes sense that there is an issue he has been told to work on. Would have expected his tank to be up to scratch now.

It was a statement without the use of the disclaimer of 'I believe' .;)
There is apparently abit of hype that he could become the clubs gunstone type and work in tandem with Jack higher up the ground . I assume this would leave my mate Tyronne playing his statue role deep .

Well one would have to assume he's been told to work on something.

Sounds like you should stay home so he can kick a handful again...:D

Should just get the tackle bag out and practice his speccies over the top of the loose man. At least our games would have some entertainment :D

McBean to play next 2 weeks against Hawks and Swans get 4 & 5 disposals kick 3 points and be delisted at years end. Get picked up by Fremantle and become the next Lockett.
