Going to go out on a limb here and suggest they have been holding him back and giving him a slight hope by picking him as an emergency 1000 times over the last 5 years because they want to build up his determination so when he plays his first game he takes 49 marks and kicks 34 goals 15 behinds and re writes the AFL record books forever and goes down as the greatest footballers of all time, which includes any time warps and any other forms of time vortexes...i can see a plan on what they are doing with Bean :drunk:

I am sure Dan Richardson has a great plan for Mcbean..! It's classified........

Some people want Riewoldt to just be there in the forward 50 and kick goals. If you do that, then some people say that there isn't someone skillful enough to do what Riewoldt is doing now.

I have an idea. Why doesn't McBean be the guy that stays in the forward 50 and kick goals, and Riewoldt be the one playing down the field? If he is not good at all of the other stuff and his strength is kicking goals (and by that I mean a regular 4-5 goal haul like we saw last year in the VFL), then why can't we structurally cater for that in his first few years until he becomes good enough in the other areas? We have one of the best forwards in the league in Jack Riewoldt that so many teams would love to have. Why don't we have him mentor McBean on the field so he can improve in all of the off the ball things?

If he plays and I am proven wrong after a 6-7 week block, then at least we are not wondering, but as it stands, I don't think it is wise to be in a position to lose him (by not playing him) if we have not seen what he can do at AFL level. Maybe the VFL just does not give him enough motivation anymore to put in a consistent performance.

Youre missing my point. He won't kick even close to 3-4 at AFL level. A lot of the goals he kicks at VFL level are cheapies. He won't get that many chances at the top level. He barely went near the ball on Sat and didn't even have a single shot on goal.

Firstly, you're wrong - he kicked a goal. Secondly, he was carrying a leg injury all week. He didn't train, and he was visibly limping at the game. Not sure you can write him off on that one game.

I was going to put that as a third option, " or will Richmond continue their trend and gift Hawthorn their next tall forward option".

To be fair we haven't really let anybody of quality go. The only ex-Tigers in recent memory that have ended up at Hawthorn are Adam Pattison and Carl Peterson.

Won't be successful anywhere because of his body type. Too weak and too slow and won't be anything more than a good vfl player.

I'd be happy to agree with you if I saw him actually play AFL. The fact that a pick 33 in 2012 cant get a game in the seniors shows you just how bad this club is at recruiting.

Couple of points about the VFL
Midfield delivery is diabolical
3 big forwards doesn't work at punt rd the ground is to small
McBean kicked a goal in the third when Griff went to the backline Griff played alot behind the ball as well and showed a lot better attack on the ball .

Gifting games to players guys like Vickery and Griffiths while they were out of form (not to mention hampson) while coming up with any excuse to not play McBean was troubling considering McBean's VFL form, playing Chol in all 3 NAB cup games while giving McBean nothing was nothing short of Bizarre.
Vickery and Griff's defensive pressure is non-existant anyway, Vickery even played a season without being able to take an overhead mark after his shoulder injuries.
In McBeans couple of games he looked quite good, moved the ball well and almost took a screamer, missed a few shots at goal that would have given him alot of confidence and forced them to give him another game.
Not to mention Jack has always been a big wrap for him, an opinion which I have alot of respect for.

But unless we've completely screwed him up, he will go to another team and prove to everyone our coaches dont know squat as he cements himself in their forward line....or not, and he was just never up to AFL standard, time will tell.

People have been banging on about his consistency. If he has shown even the smallest miniscule of football ability at any stage, then it's more than I've seen from Hampson. That project is a signed, sealed and delivered fail. Play McBean for the rest of the year, just get him jumping, contesting and trying. Who cares if it takes the next 16 games to work out that he's not up to it, because the alternative is a fully proven hack.

We've seen him in 2 games and show nothing. He'd absolutely have to be bashing down the door to get selected. Griffiths has been back two games and has already showed much more.

He was the ****ing leading goal kicker in the VFL last year.

Geez. What more does the boy have to do?

And he was selected twice only to provide zero presence in both games. I honestly don't understand the fascination with this guy. It is very common for players to dominate in VFL and not have it carry over to AFL. Anyone remember Orren Stephenson? He used to destroy on a weekly basis im VFL and was barely serviceable at AFL.

Mcbean is scrawny, slow and more inconsistent at VFL this year than last.

Ffs we shouldn't be demanding players to be gifted games based on what we hope they will do. There would be many logical reasons that the club has as to why Bean hasn't been given the callup this year.

It's almost like fans think the club is intentionally doing it to piss them off.

His 2 games were in 2013 when he was 19 years old LOL ..... no wonder he had zero presence in both games.

Since then he has kicked over 100 VFL goals
