I actually thought he showed a bit in his two games.
I'm wondering whether its yet another 'pigeonholing' problem.
Does it really matter if he's a 200 cm 'small' forward?
What if that is a problem for the opposition, not us?
What if that means they will have big problems finding a match up?
Too big for a small/med defender, too agile for a tall.
True, it may not solve our 'key' position issue (apparently he's not that strong in the aerial contest).
But it might give us a very dangerous third tall.

How is being too big an advantage for a ground game? He doesn't have mass or strength, just height

It's because Ty can't do the 'small forward' type things, and thats the benchmark.
If Ty scooped one off the ground and booted one around his shoulder, that too would sudden;y become the benchmark.
Pigeonholing is exactly what it is and what we do at Tigerland.

That's the point though

If he's playing like a small forward he is not exploiting that height

I'll have another crack at this, because I think what you are saying is an example of the perspective problem I'm getting at.
Take Buddy Franklin for example.
He's a tall that is not that great overhead (although he does usually get the ball to ground).
But when the ball hits the turf he becomes 'the man'.
Very few 'big' men are fast and agile enough to go with him (not many teams have a Mr Rance).
So he creates major match up problems for the opposition.
Now I'm not claiming the Bean is in the same class as Buddy.
But his height could make him a difficult match-up.
He might be able to out mark the small defenders and out maneuver the bigger ones.
I haven't seen enough of him to know if this is the case.
But then none of us have at AFL level.

Franklin has about three times the strength of mcbean. And his strength is the lead, not the crumbling work of a small forward

Again, how is his height an advantage when he prefers a ground game? Clubs know he doesn't play tall, so they just play a mid on him and mcbean is done on speed and dexterity

It's rubbish. They say it's not about goals and that they know he would kick goals at AFL level, and then when he sacrifices his own goalkicking, works up the ground and takes 4 or 5 contested marks, they still don't put him in.

He's just not one of the favourites. Even when he was in the AFL and got dropped immediately he was a better tall target than Vickery is ATM. He leads to smart spots that straighten us up, whereas Vickery stands there then flails his arms wildly. If that's playing like a tall, maybe we need less talls.
Yeah his leading was a feature in the AFL game I saw him play, did very well for a debut game, would only improve with further chances.

Like Dean Polo
Yeah but at least we knew what Dean Polo brought at AFL level. He played 56 games for Richmond. McBean has only played 2 games.

If this guy doesn't play well at AFL level and he got a decent block of games, then at least we know that we are not missing out on much when he gets delisted or leaves for better opportunity. But, given our current forward line struggles, I'd be uncomfortable to let a proven VFL goalkicker go with only 2 senior games attached to his name. If our forward line was great like Adelaide's without McBean, then I wouldn't really care much if he got senior games or not.

Agree.
May as well see how he goes at AFL level for a block of four weeks. Nothing to lose.
We already know the likes of Hunt are not AFL footballers and he gets a game every week.

Pretty obvious the Beans papers are stamped Never to play again at Richmond .....once griffo was replaced in todays team and dimma brings in townsend to play as a fwd instead of The Bean . well then sorry beany you aint playing seniors again ,,, even if we have no jack no griff no tye no hammer no maric I Damien hardwick will not play you as I don't rate you at all sorry mate nothing personal im just a pig headed coach with NFI

Let's say Griff is still not right next week, and the Hamster has hurt his knee...
Maric or McBean?

McBean wasn't an emergency, so he couldn't replace Griff

He could we just pay a fine. They would have known Thursday night that Griff was likely to miss. So they could have made him an emergency. But dimma don't rate the bean

Dimma loves his battlers

This dud delist about to happen was discussed at length during the enthralling game yesterday that had us reaching for the next drink. So here is the deal. There are reasons McBean doesn't get a gig and none of them are that the club is planning to unveil sone kind of magic trick that takes the footy workd by storm. If another club doesn't throw the dice ala Gus Graham to the Crows. The bean will be plying his trade where past ex tiger duds go like Balwyn

The least it would do is increase his trade value but we could also return to the finals race. #unleashthebean

I'LL explain this one last time, simply palying a guy does not increase his trade value.
I want McBean to play and he should - I also want him t prove Hardwick wrong and thrive.
But, Yarran was not sighted in the second half of last year, but we were still willing to hand over pick 19, which we obtained by giving up two straight second rounders. Yarran's value did not alter one bit by not playing and neither did Lachie Henderson's.
Tell me, how much value has Vickery plonked on to his worth by playing so many dud games this sason.
Playing people for trade value is the biggest myth in football.

Well it depends entirely on if they play well or not. If Vickery kicked 20 goals over the last 8 games, his value goes up.
