If he learns to chase defensively then yeah he can play as a small forward
Just being tongue-in-cheek about the possibility that Eveready Boomer might be retired by 2017.

I would actually like to see exactly that forward line you wrote in 2017. If Harps and Garner come good alongside the class off Higgins and LT, our small forward set up will be deadly.

I love Boomer but a couple of times this year I have absolutely lost my shit at his piss poor defensive efforts.
I wonder if Crocks had a word to Boomer because the Eagles and Swans games have been the first time this year he has gotten physical with tackling and a bit of aggro. His early season form not only lacked defensively but some uncharacteristically poor decision making and disposal too. Seems to be regaining his mojo thankfully.

No way I'd deal on Aaron Black unless someone threw us massive overs.

He's been injured and was probably played when he shouldn't have been last year (sidenote - must be really motivating to other players to send the message "we'd rather play a bloke who can't raise his arms to mark over you").

Waite is one twist, turn or brain snap from the end. Majak doesn't seem guaranteed to be in the club's plans or preferences. Drew is heading into his mid 30s, Mason Wood appears destined for a wing/utility role. Durdin seems penciled in for defence.

So trade out Black and our under 30 tall forward options can be summarised as:

Ben Brown
In that chase Daw would have to be an option. Black i wouldn't even classify as a tall forward, more utility. Wood looks stronger than black and he's only a cm shorter.

Also Currie is a possible option up forward too, should be very dangerous with Brown and Currie both being over 200cm.

Regardless, looks like the club is phasing out Daw and favouring black for some unknown reason. It also looks like it'll never play Currie unless Goldy is out.

Shame because Daw, Black and Currie need AFL experience but won't get it until 2 years time when Waite and Petrie go.

Yep.. North in 3 years time is going to be exciting IMO. I much prefer that list over the current one accept for the loss of Boomer

As you said Black isn't necessarily competing for a Tall Fwd spot as such. Mason is built for that wing role pushing forward, whereas Black is a leading agile forward, not saying Mason isn't agile, but the reason people believe we can fit both he and Black in the team is they offer something different to each other.

It's not that they're ignoring Daw for Black at all, it's just that they're completely different players, it's like saying we're playing Dumont in the midfield ahead of McDonald, yeah Mcdonald can play that role but it's not what he's selected for.

Currie is a back up pure and simple, his papers have been stamped with our drafting last year of a 200 + monster kid.

Worst defensive player in the team. The thing that shits me is that he will choose not to chase or tackle, just jogging along then a North teammate will do his job for him and he will all of a sudden peak off and look like his 25 again. Hard to play any sort of zone or man man with a guy who doesn't choose to put in.End rant.

God ******* damn it:

NORTH Melbourne forward Aaron Black could request a trade to Fremantle at season’s end after spending the first half of the season languishing in the VFL.
Black, has rebuffed the Dockers’ strong interest for several years but will consider his future after losing form and confidence in the Roos’ VFL affiliate North Ballarat.

Several other clubs, including Port Adelaide, are also believed to be interested in the 192cm goalkicker.

Black is contracted to Arden St until the end of 2017 after signing a four-year deal on the back of a breakthrough 2013 season.

But he has languished in the VFL playing key forward for a team which has suffered repeated heavy losses this year.

Black loomed as one of the most exciting young forwards in the competition two years ago but played through a shoulder injury last season and has played only one senior AFL game in 2015.

In the VFL, he has averaged 12 possessions and four marks a game, while the man who took Black’s spot in the forward line, 32-year-old Jarrad Waite, has bagged 16 goals from 10 AFL games.

It is understood Black, 24, would be open to considering his trade options at season’s end if his circumstances don’t change in the second half of the season.

The chance to return home to Western Australia and play a key role for a premiership heavyweight may be hard to resist for Black in the trade period.

The Roos have previously declined the Dockers’ interest in Black, but the Roos may be forced reconsider if a deal can help secure the club a prime goalkicking midfielder or a first-round draft pick. Dockers’ wingman Tom Sheridan has been linked to a move home to Victoria.

The Kangaroos signed ex-Carlton key forward Waite at the end of last season to bolster their forward setup but the free agency recruiting move could, in part, cost them Black.

Fremantle is intent on securing an established key forward prong to bolster its attacking setup and replace champion centre half forward Matthew Pavlich.

The Dockers recruited a similar player in former Bomber Scott Gumbleton but another hamstring injury ended his career.

The Dockers have a superstar midfield brigade but will need to add depth to their key position stocks at both ends to keep their premiership window open.

The Kangaroos have preferred a three-pronged key forward setup featuring Drew Petrie, Ben Brown and Waite this season but the trio managed only one goal (from Petrie) in Saturday night’s loss to Sydney.

The Kangaroos will take on Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday trying to keep their finals aspirations alive.
