This will probably be shouted down but I really don't care. We are not even remotely close to winning a flag, those who think that we are need to get rid of the blinkers. We thought after making a prelim last year we could have a serious crack so we bring in Waite and Higgins, Higgins has been very good and is in the prime of his career whilst Waite is Waite, wildly inconsistent, unreliable and a frustration to everyone. So let's piss him off and Play Black ( a Black who can lift his shoulders unlike last year ) even if his VFL form has been poor. Black has something and I know if we lose him he's going to turn into a star.

If Waite got injured - Daw would come in, not Black. It's hardly like he's banging the door down in the VFL. Granted NB have been horseshite, but save for one mark against Hawthorn, he was unsighted.
If he wanted to go and Freo/West Coast/any other club were to offer something good - we'd be silly not to even look at it. WE hold the power.

The way the market is and the way free agency is opening up - the need to groom young key forwards/defenders is less necessary that it was a few years ago.

Not saying that I want us to lose Blacky, but it's not the end of the world if he leaves.

Why stop at him. Bring in a whole raft of vfl plodders. Play em with black and basti and go for the 1st draft pick.

Freo either pay overs for a player who is contracted for another 2.5 years or they can f*** right off!
I see you North Fans have big cojones. For some reason the Freo board dont want him but I do. What would be a fair trade? Fyfe and Dawson.... ESPCIALLY DAWSON are off the Table. You would have to pry Dawson off my cold dead hands. I am reluctant to hand a 1st round pick. 2nd round pick wont cut it. Freo wont pay over the odds to get him. Freo famously backed off mitch clark back in 2011.

How can we be potentially losing players like this because of opportunity when we are sitting 5-6 and looking at maybe not playing final...I don't think we will lose him.
If we are a top 3 or 4 side playing good consistent footy then maybe we might lose a couple of fringe players. But wtf. No way we would be getting rid of decent depth.

Its the split round and theres a lack of stories going around. Maybe thats it.

What North would want for Black, Freo wouldn't be willing to give.

We'd have to wind up with significant overs I'd have thought.
I was subtly hinting that a player on good money who doesn't look near the best 22, still contracted for two years, is an issue for a club and North might look to move him on.

I guess the question is; Do you think North would have contracted him for another two years if he was out of contract at the end of this season?

I think we see him as a long term player who played last year despite a structural shoulder injury and who we see as key post Waite and Petrie, so yeah, I think we would contract him for 2 more years.

The $$$ think isn't really an issue as we will have a number of senior retirements over the next 2 years that will clear a fair bit of cap space.

It doesn't matter because he is contracted for another two years.

It's like if I asked if Freo would still draft Morabito if they had thier time over? Or if they'd have him on whatever contract he's on now?

Hypotheticals. What's the point?

Because it isn't a hypothetical anymore.

If a club want Black and North look at him and think: "He just isn't the same after that injury year, we aren't convinced he will ever get back to his former levels and doesn't offer more than specialised players in other roles on field" then the next two years are on the table and I guess we will tell if/when he is traded just how much North still want him on their list.

I fully respect that to North fans he has a worth far greater and above that which I personally rate him at.

Morabito is on a one year, year to year contract.

North don't look at players like that. We just don't and if you don't believe that look up the Name Robert Tarrant. 4 shoulder recos, a significant and persistent leg injury and a whole lotta years with not much and where did we ship him off to? The starting 22.

Aaron has played barely more than a handfull of games since significant shoulder surgey.

The last of which was his best so perhaps he is at a point where his form is turning.

We played him last year through injury in preference to playing a fully fit player despite the lower output.

I would suggest that he is rated extremely highly internally and I would be incredibly surprised if that didn't translate to him having a clear understanding of how North intend for him to figure in our future.

If we were to let him go as a contracted player when his value is probably at the lowest its been since his OP, I'd be pretty annoyed as it is incredibly short sighted.

I am not beyond the idea of trading him but we would need a significant amount in return. A bundle that gets us an out and out gun of the future I could live with.

There is also nothing to indicate Aaron is actually looking anywhere. He might be open to the idea of trade. Might be. Solid ground there. What is solid is the contract he has to 2017.

Until one of Black or the club come out and say directly that he doesn't want to be at the club any talk about a trade is hypothetical.

For what it's worth, if we had our time over I'm sure we'd still sign him for 5 years. He has a lot of potential, too much to have let him walk to Freo a few years ago. If he was out of contract right now I'd still like to think we'd sign him up. Only time will tell if that's going to pay off.

If Freo didn't show interest and offer him 5 years we would not have offered a similar contract.
