Traded 35. Jarrad Jansen (2014-2015)

Here's the big- bodied midfielder many have been crying out for; Jansen already has a big frame and could conceivably play next year. But he looks pretty raw too, maybe lacks a bit of agility.

the disposal looked fair, bombed a nice goal from about 55m - and the marking should become a real asset, he gets his big body in front and looks capable in a one on one marking contest.

Best-case scenario : Anthony Koutoufides
Worst-case scenario : Carl Steinfort
;)

Your worst case is quite apt. CC. Especially when chasing the player.
Best case...don't think AK , not sure he could ever be that athletic..someone less nimble perhaps

I think Cat Addict was the first mention I saw on the Potential thread . Me tips me hat.....

Sept 9 2013

I agree with the frustration of our rucks, but with a fit HMac or Simpson not sure to many others would be named before these guys if West can't even get a game. I am sure if they had there time again they would have named West. Sandi played his best game for the year, you couldn't have seen that coming.

On recruiting I would nearly give up my left arm for Scooter. Would slot straight in with Corey's departure, might even free up SJ for half forward role. Joel, Scott, Duncan, Bundy, Caddy, with a Gutherie and Motlop part time that's a great midfield for the next 5 plus years.

I love the Kersten kid but if we are not playing him, and he is home sick we could do worse than include him as part of a trade. Could thrown in a Stringer type or a 2nd round to get it over the line.

For our key backs I am pretty sure they have been planning this for a while and have Brown in contract and Hamling developing along also. If we can get 3/4 of next season out of Enright and Lonergan, well see Thurlow and Brown in there by then. We don't have great depth so another KPD draft pick this year would be the way to go.

Tom Barrass , 192 cm is predicted for the 30 to 60 range or Cameron Giles 195 cm is about that mark also.

Jared Jensen 188 cm mid, is another one I like the look of if we could score a higher second round pick. Sheed would be better but just looking for some 2nd round talent.

Looks brilliant. Long penetrating kick on him, an eye for a goal, loved his one handed diving tackle...Dare I say Rooke like. Doesn't look to have particularly good hands but the rest of his game is rather impressive.

Took a while to read his name out, anyone else get the impression we were contemplating taking Garlett and wondering whether this kid would still be there at 41?

Could have just as easily been a case of having two selections within six picks and wanting to get the two players you want in that range (or two of, say three or four that you'd be happy with from those picks). Which means you don't necessarily just pick the player that you think is better with #36, but you have to analyse the teams in between and try to identify which player is the most likely to last until #41.

As for Jansen, I like what I see. As with the other picks, he seems to fit an obvious need and all three look like they have AFL-ready bodies.

Similarly looked like we were set to take Jones at 16 before Sydney came in for him.

I think it was more we were probably set to take a player like Robertson and when he got nabbed, we had to have a conversation about the next best available midfielder for us.

Glad we didn't touch Garlett, woud not go near him.

I did pick a big bodied midfielder from WA to join the Cats (Cripps or Acres), but as he is listed as a FWD this is one guy I didn't know about. Looks like the modern footballer, big and strong and can play in more than one position if need be. Which with the cap in rotations will be handy moving forward.

in the short highlights posted on the AFL website, I like Darcy better as he just looks so comfortable and natural in defense or midfield but no doubt we could see this kid become something special.

We now have some very good sized additions in Thurlow, Smedts, Caddy, Murdoch, Guthrie and now Jansen. Players who seem capable of playing more than one role for the team.
If we can get Menzel up and running, look out!

The right club picked him up I think!;) They had a gaping hole on their list for a FIGJAM from WA after Buddy left.

I have to say that I didn't even see this guys name in the phantom drafts. I'm sure he was on them, he just wasn't spoken about much. I really like the highlights package, and from what I saw I think he at least has the ingredients to be a gun in the guts. It'll be funny if he ends up a better player than half of the midfielders taken in the top 10.

Disagree.

I am pretty disappointed we didn't pull the trigger on garlett at 36. Just watch him become an outright star for hawks. Will make them instantly better from round 1 and his off field side will mature with time in an AFL environment.

Its made worse that its hawks who will look like the drafting genius to give him a shot.

We will all look back and kick ourselves for overlooking this opportunity, mark my words.

I'd rather our football department spend their budget on football related items rather than a staff of minders and attitude adjustment specialists that the Poo and Wee friends have on staff with Buddy leaving and Garlett coming in.

Go Catters

It's hard to tell from the video because you don't know what stage of the games the highlights were from.
And therefor I don't know if he was fatigued or not.

But really seems to struggle in the first 5 metres, seems to lack a bit of endurance, and I'm just not sure about his ball handling.
Seems to be a really nice mark though.

Good project type player though as he has body size.
2 preseasons and we'll find out.

Ran a sub 11 minute 3km if that means anything.

That would be average wouldn't it?
As in, not horrible, just average.
