Traded 35. Jarrad Jansen (2014-2015)

I don't think we have enough quality half back flankers coming through now that it seems Guthrie will be a full time mid.

I think we have a terrific crop coming through, Thurlow, Lang, Bews, Hunt, Guthrie and with Hamling's athleticism, I would also throw him in the bracket of smalls who are able to also play tall like Mackie does.
Smedts is another one who looked set to play that role for us this year until he fractured his leg.

I appreciate your enthusiasm but 3 of your 6 mentioned are yet too debut, I would even go on to say Bews is in some trouble staying on the list for 2015.

Of the others, Guthrie is a mid, leaving thurlow and hunt. Hunt whilst doing a decent job atm, is probably not going to improve a hell of a lot more and will surely be pushed out by the likes of thurlow sooner or later.

My above post is refering to the need to develop our next milburn/mackie.

I only see thurlow and maybe smedts living up to that and we need more, which is why I suggested JJ, whom I believe has the right skill set to blossom into this role.

Bews is only 20 and he can't exactly push Poodle out of the current team due to his development in the back half this season. Don't forget Poodle is 23 and notched up his 62nd game last weekend. He's at about that stage of his career where we will start to see whether he has the goods or not. So far, he looks comfortable wouldn't you agree? Has he had someone take him to school and kick a bag on him this year?

Jansen to me, he looks like they are grooming him to become an inside midfielder for the next decade. Currently building his tank and getting him stronger through the core, his ability to find the pill at such an early stage in his career (via VFL) averaging 17 touches in limited time on the ground in his first couple of games has natural midfielder written all over it.

He's just such a ****ing big unit.

What I'd like to see is another one just like him, I wish we had two 2nd rounders and got Robertson, real big mid as well.
If JJ has the capacity to play across the midfield fantastic!....why focus on negatives with him?
I'd prefer two of them, give Sam Mitchell and company big headaches.

Muttered the exact same phrase last week seeing against the Tigers vfl. Hello SMITHY #2

Considering he is 193 , and we have been linked to at least two KPD's that are around 193... can we see if this guy can play on the backline? We need to find a spot for him , get him in the side and atm 2015 looks another year where he will struggle to break in

I would not be upset if he was given a few stints in the middle during the preseason games to see how he goes. And why not try him in the backline? He moves quite well for a big chunk of a kid. I doubt that he would have the tank to play long stints in the middle just yet. But they will need to have a look at him by giving him a few stints in the midfield before the season proper starts. They may need to do the same with Lang and Hartman, who look to be the only other possible options at the moment.

Just like the idea of getting extra flex into the side , him sometimes down back is a start

Some may say that he is a tad short but the KP players that are around Jansen's height are also generally very strong bodied players. Their stronger broader built body can, to some degree, compensate or even give them an advantage over taller less physically strong players. I personally think that Jansen looks like he could possibly play forward, back or middle. I think that Kolodjashnij could play in defense or forward.

I am not suggesting that they could slot straight into the AFL team tomorrow. They have both only been on the list for a single season. But they look to me to have the skill set to be flexible in where they could play in the future given their size and abilities.

Yup.. The time has come. He needs a taste. Not expecting miracles or anything special but if Luxford can get a few games, JJ Has earned them too.

Yep , just hope the thundering herd of returning players don't trample his shot. Eye on the prize Geelong , should be picked this week if he was in last week.

Hope this is the first of many for the young man.
Whilst injuries have seen him lead a different path to Cripps they were very similar in terms of output at Colts level in the year they were drafted - sincerely hope he develops similarly to Paddy - we would defenitely have to bring forward the erection of the Wells statue if that eventuates. ;)

It will be August when Geelong plays on the weekend and JJ still has not had his debut.
It is starting to look like he will not get to play AFL this year.

I know :(
Really hope we still give him a one year contract to see if he makes strides in his 3rd year with us but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't offer him a contract :'(

Beginning to really think he'll end up elsewhere at the end of this season. I think GHS getting a contract to the end of 2018 has unfortunately put the pressure on.
