He is currently 5th in line for a starting mid spot and in time is the perfect replacement for Hewett. But for now, to be a regular in the team, he needs to be able to play other positions as well.
I agree, but we don't rotate our midfielders. We had Lord and Hollands in the side last week who did not go into the midfield at all and our clueless coach wondered why we didn't finish off the game. Not rotating the midfielders, not finishing games off well...

Been off the air for 36 hours or so. Late to the party to laud our Lord. I am a huge fan of Cooper, perhaps not as big as my missus who named him “Blue Eyes” after our trip to the Maroochydore open day.

I have been critical of Vossy at times, but will not join the pile on criticising Cooper’s sub appearances. Somewhat luckily he has come on early a couple of times to offset a little. The kid works so hard, he does run himself to an almost standstill late in games. His best spot is in the guts, but the peripheral roles he is being asked to play will be the making of him. An appreciation of other roles, as well as the grounding to play them can only be beneficial in the long run. I would rather he is shifted around a bit than become locked in to a role bollocking and bashing exclusively under the Voss game plan.

Maybe some insight from Voss deploying Lord and Cerra in alternate roles while other, less versatile players are doing the grunt work. Of course, it could be otherwise motivated keeping him from CBA’s, but should produce the same long term result of expanding the kid’s repertoire while saving from himself physically with his attack on the ball while still developing his tank.
Although I’ve felt he has been a bit underutilized with midfield rotations, the experience in playing in another role has been beneficial to his development…
Great post…

Onya Scoop! Hope you're able to get an extended run at time on field.

Also, does anyone else think he looks like Leon Marchand??

What a find Cooper's turning out to be.

While there's some competition for who the best MSD player is (Ambrosio for mine but there's others) it wouldn't surprise me in a few years if Cooper's right up there.

Backed up last week's performance with an even better one. Comfortably beat one of the premier midfielders in the competition and had 24 possessions of his own. Carlton's highest ranked player and was there when the whips were cracking. This was a really mature display. Hopefully his days as the starting or finishing sub are done.

Cooper Lord was the second most subbed (on or off) player in the AFL last year, with 10 sub affected matches. Behind only Harry Sharp of Melbourne with 11. He will celebrate the end of the sub rule more than most.
Truthfully he should be moving back a bit further in the depth chart this year, but we'll see how it plays out in the next few days with respect to picks and players.
