Doesn't look like he's anything more than injury cover...til our big guns retire at least.

Would have loved to pickup a KPD.

Anyway, we've done magnificently with Boyd in the past so MSD is certainly a potentiL strength of Austin.

Sam Mitchell remains one of the hardest guys to tackle I've ever seen. So was dane swan. Both for different reasons and neither for having speed.

Those 2 'types' would still dominate in 6-6-6 too. Swan clean clean lightning hands and ridiculously strong hips and Mitchell being bony and just about the best reader of play in modern football. You don't need to be fast if you can move the right way before anyone else.

& endurance, Looks like could play forward too with his attributes, People complaining we didn't take a tall... the goal was to find a long term player who already looks really solid playing against men & maybe we just didn't rate anyone else in KP. That's why end of year trade & delisting's can give clubs a chance to add list.

Probably the idea behind picking Cooper tonight over a player like RCD.

McMahon was the interesting choice. Still reckon we could’ve thrown him on the list with the other selection for 6 months and said give it your best shot. I’m sure he will be considered at the end of the year. No way we could have him over an actual Lord though.

From Agresta; draft players with a longer term outlook to try out on the list plus they’re expecting a tight squeeze on list numbers, extra numbers won’t help the cull/re-signings/trades/ND/RD/SSP.

But I agree, he’s on the VFL list and a 6-month chop out would have been a plus for both parties if on the same page.

Does this seem like a bit of a samey pick to what our midfield already is? Contest mids, not fast and without a great deal of offensive damage. Workmanlike

In any case I don't want to be negative on the young fella, he does lower the eyes with is already a + and a solid citizen as a depth midfielder to come in and play a role is a good find in the MSD so if he becomes that then it's a handy pickup

I also like that he's young, a 19 yr old. Scope for plenty of growth.

Don't mind this pick. Our midfield is rubbish when it comes to pressure and closing speed. His general speed isn't flash but it's closing speed, speed off the first few steps needed around the ball. His tackling looks good. Looks strong. Seems to be doing well for his age.

I'd much rather draft a young guy with a bit of talent to see what they can do than to draft some player who fits a need due to position but is rubbish quality.

Give him a go and see how he turns out. Our midfield needs to add two tackling and pressure machines to match the current better teams. Currently our midfield is the next wrung down. So if he brings that and some high level footy then he very much fits a big need for us.

Worst case, he improves our VFL side which is dreadful.

Perhaps, but I'm not sure mids with offensive damage and no major flaws are easy to find in the MSD.

Looks a well rounded player, if workmanlike, who played well at u18 level and has adapted well to the VFL. Not flashy, might lack hurt factor but otherwise no obvious flaws, maybe passed on for being too vanilla.

Lots of great players with similar traits followed a similar career path. Carrazzo and Ed two that come to mind...

I like the pick to be honest.

We were never going to find a player that instantly comes in and impacts our team this year.

Hopefully Lord is a long term view to develop in our midfield.

After our starting mids (Cripps Walsh Cerra Kennedy Hewett), we don't have too much developing in our reserves. Carroll is really the only one.

We need to keep developing in case of injuries and also develop for the future.

Our outside mid needs seem to have a bit coming through with Binns, Hollands and the campo twins coming.

Best of luck to Lord. Hopefully he can earn a spot in the coming years.
