Fraser McInnes (2012 -2019)

Picture from training today via West Coast Twitter.

Petrie clearly out of his depth and forced to give away a free to McInnes in the ruck contest. Go eat s**t, Drew.

Adam Simpson has said that McInenes will play the first pre-season game as a ruckman, along with Nathan Vardy.

Sorry Drew, looks like your old legs were no match for the youth of BIG FRASER!

A rambling and deluded Adam Simpson gave a press conference today and, obviously, the question of Fraser McInnes came up.

Transcript:
Reporter: Where do you see Fraser McInnes (is) at this year and how much game time can he play? Can he push into that ruck spot as well?

Adam Simpson: Yeah look, he is.... It's a big year for him, so he'll get an opportunity today and see how he goes for next week. So, now he's got opportunity but it's a big year for him.

Ok, the "big year for him" s**t is a bit heavy. Please take a chill pill at your next leisure, Adam Simpson, and please ignore it, fellow reader.

The main thing to notice here is not "It's a big year for him", the thing to notice is "Now he's got opportunity".

Yes, McIness has lucked into his chance but I'm comfortable in saying that the silent majority know it wont go to waste.

Long Live Large Fraser!

So the silent majority had reason to remain silent after Fraser's first pre-season hit out for West Coast.

It's not that Large Fraser was rubbish, it's that he was average in a rubbish team performance, and you don't often hear a coach say "He was mediocre in a bad team so we had to pick him again".

Here are the stats: 4K, 7HB, 11D, 90.9DE, 2M (both contested), 14HO, 2 CLR, 2T, and 5 1%ers in 84% time on ground.

In comparison to his new nemesis, Nathan Vardy, McInnes had more of the ball (11 touches V 5) but less hit outs (14 V 27). Truth be told, the real kick to the nuts there is the rucking. There were a few ruck contests where Fraser was clearly outpointed and the eye test wasn't as kind to him as it was to Vardy. Refer to the ruckmen chart below to see current standings:

Hopefully McInnes gets another chance next week against Fremantle but my suspicion is that Petrie (*spits on ground*) will get his turn to impress.

In the very least, Fraser will have a chance to run around for East Perth.

A bumbling Adam Simpson has today decided to not name Fraser McInnes for the second JLT Community Series match in Geraldton, instead opting to give ex-team mate and close friend, Drew Petrie, a chance.

The move has been met with heavy criticism and calls of cronyism, claims which both Simpson and Petrie declined to address.

Notable members of the public cryptically "subtweeted" their views on the issue:

Some others are prepared to give Simpson and Petrie the benefit of the doubt, convinced that McInnes' superior play will give them no option in the end.

Whether that's the case remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Fraser will likely line up for East Perth in Saturday's practise match against South Fremantle.

The West Coast Eagles selection committee has been left red faced as young prodigy, Fraser McInnes, booted 4 goals in East Perth's practise match against South Fremantle, yesterday.

Murmurs had been heard throughout town after Adam Simpson had decided to call on long time friend and possible lover, Drew Petrie, in Frasers place for the West Coast Eagles.

While Petrie's display in the Eagles pre-season match was combative, it did not show the scintillating fire power that McInnes provided for East Perth, nor did it display the ruck dominance Fraser had shown the week prior.

Nevertheless, this weeks height chart reflects the selection committees biases:

West Coast have again elected to experiment with their ruck division naming journeyman, John Giles, and obese geriatric, Drew Petrie, for the third JTL pre-season game.

Photographers yesterday snapped images of Petrie in the Subiaco stands, celebrating his selection for the game.

McInnes will look to back up last weekends best on ground performance with another strong outing for East Perth.

In a sign of respect to injured ruckman Scott Lycett, there will be no state of the art graphics or top shelf jokes in this Large McInnes Review.

Accordingly, only Fraser's stats will be posted:

14 disposals, 1 goal and a 1 sentence mention on the AFL website.

Large Fraser has been named at full forward for tonights game with East Perth.

He is being held out of the senior team by reigning Coleman Medalist, Josh Kennedy.

Graphics will return soon, when I return to Perth (to be closer to Frase).

Large Fraser had a tough outing in East Perth's first game of the regular season, as the midfield handballed backwards and kicked to the opposition.

In fact, it took the move of defender, Tom Barrass, into the forward line to confuse the team into kicking forward.

As a result, Fraser's stats are not what we have become accustomed to - 12 disposals, 5 kicks, 7 handballs, 2 marks, 3 tackles and 13 hit outs.

A lot has happened since I last managed to update this thread; namely Large McInnes has played in 2 games for East Perth and acquitted himself rather well in both.

Don't be so shocked.

In round 2 he collected 19 disposals, took 1 mark and had 33 hit outs. In round 3 it was 17 disposals, 3 marks, 31 hit outs, a goal and a tidy 7 tackles, resulting in his name on the best players list.

Those hit out numbers look particularly robust considering West Coast's current lack of healthy ruckmen. The AFL sites' weekly "In the Mix" article also didn't fail to pick up on this and labelled Fraser's work as "encouraging".

This week Large McInnes has been named at CHF, as the Royals call in Busselton product, Scott Jones, to help with the ruck duties. Unfortunately a co-ruckman probably isn't ideal for Fraser, as it means he'll spend more time in the wasteland that is the East Perth forward line, but it's good for team balance and Fraser would want to show he can light it up as half of a tandem, as well as solo.

FABULOUS FACTOID:
Large McInnes is 4th in the WAFL for hitouts.

Yeeh!

East Perth had a tough night against Claremont over the weekend. The Tigers pretty well suffocated the Royals into panicked handballs and long, blind kicks down the line and, as a result, Large Fraser managed only 14 disposals and 2 marks.

In terms of ruck work he was pretty well noncompetitive against the underrated Mitchell Andrews, providing only 18 hit outs. Andrews, who's listed at only 92kgs, bullied his way to 39 taps.

In spurts and perhaps out of frustration, Large Fraser provided some aggression, particularly early on in the game. Late in the second quarter, however, he got reported for striking ex-Eagles, Anton Hamp, and back it off.

Missing a week through suspension seems a real possibility and it's far from ideal. West Coast have a 5 day break, Vardy is a little sore and McInnes is... In s**t form and not eligible to play. Egads!
