Watt has to go but gibbo getting injured should save him for a few weeks.

He was below shit today,he cant even punch the ball away from a rover and falls when noone is around him.

S.thommo has to be given game time and would give a better contest and better drive out of the backline.

PS-When gibbo got injured was Watt around, hmmm

yeah, no way he will get dropped with Gibbo's injury.

I was actually surprised he was moved to Robbo anyway, odd matchup.
That's why we are going no where fast. Because we keep giving guys a game when they have been pathetic. Don't see the relevance anyway, because Watt can't play Gibbo's role. Matty Campbell would out mark Shannon Watt in a one on one body contest!

Not happy with his game Today at all. Has to be dropped.

He conceded just too many goals for someone thats a key defender.
Didnt look like a back mans ring hole on to many occasions . his days are numbered i think made robbo look to good when he was at his worst .:(

I guess you missed the 6 goals he conceded or there abouts.
Did not notice him concede six goals, no.

Noticed him get outmarked twice in the dying stages of the game - both by Robertson I think - at least one converted but not sure on the other one.

I presume this is what you are referring to. Your (in)ability to count bothers me a little. As does your inability to actually judge a performance on its merits, rather than on your pre-existing irrational dislike for a player.

I must be attending different games of footy to some people?!?!?

This guy continually gets beaten one on one even when the opposition forward has the ball kicked on top of his head. Brad Miller was having a field day on Watt, and Miller is one of the biggest spud's going around.

And yes Watt was on Robbo in the last.

I don't mind if he gets beaten I just want to see a contest and some effort. Scotty Thompson at least would give a contest.
I think it is a bit unfair comparing Watt to S.Thompson a kid who has not earned his stripes yet.
Perhaps bring Thompson in for Gibson only.

I think you guys are being a little tough on Brad Miller. Again, it seems to me we have a lot of tv watchers on these boards. I was at the game & that guy absolutely busted his nuts running around all day... And for what? Crap delivery that often went to a North player 20 metres short of where he was leading to.

For mine, Miller was Melbourne's best player purely on his ability to present & be a target (something we lacked as we had no centre-half forward for most of the day).

I'm not saying Watt was great today, but he had more of a role to play than a couple of the other defenders.

Anyway, there is no point dropping him now as we have the Bulldogs in abotu 4 weeks and we all know he gets the Smiling Assassin.

I am not a fan of Shannon Watt, never have been over the last 10 years, and probably never will be. His game today was up and down. I agreee, he had some good moments, and did certainly provide some drive off HB, but his problem when he has the ball is that he does not lower his vision. He is very much an old style footballer when it comes to this (get ball, kick ball).

At other times today he again looked terrible. Whenever he gets isolated in a one on one marking contest he is gone for all money. he has no inkling as to how to use his body, or work to the front position. He does not lower his centre of gravity at the right times in marking (body on body) contests, therefore gets pushed aside far too easily.

One of the goals he had kicked on him in the last quarter sums up Shannon Watt as a footballer. I think it may have been Davey with the ball running infront of the old Olympic stand. Watt was isolated with Robertson down in the square. Watt should have known that Davey is a left footer, and secondly was basically right on the boundary line. The ONLY place Robbo could lead, and the ONLY place the kick was going to go to was the 'fat side'. Robbo lead there and the kick went there. Watt seemed to have no idea that this was the only play that could happen from where Davey had the ball. Watt held his ground in the square whilst Robbo casually led into space, into the 'fat side' and took an easy chest mark and kicked the goal.

This sums up Watt as a footballer, and the reason why he has had a poltus of goals kicked on him over the years.....
He does not have any football smarts, is a slow thinker, and even slower to react. No side can have this in a key defender.

Did alright on Brad Miller, but let's be honest, he won't get too many easier assignments this year.

Managed to play Russell Robertson into form in one single quarter of football.

Amazing.

Gibson going down now assures he stays in the team.

We are not going to win a flag with this bloke in the team.

Simply put, he gets games because, since the Hay debacle, the recruiting/coaching staff have refused to address the most glaring deficiency on our list.

Think about it, Our list now contains:

8 potential Full Forward/Centre Half Forwards. (Petrie, Thompson, Edwards, Smith, Wundke, Obst, Tarrant, Wilsen)

3 potential Full Back/Centre Half Backs. (Petrie, Hansen, Firrito <--just.)

SHOCKING list management!

Was good early. Miller is an atrocious footballer, but I thought Watt was ok with the footy and did his job.

In the last quarter though, he made a disinterested, lazy flog look like Jason Dunstall. It's like he can't play a game without having 15 minutes of complete shitness. But he is safe as houses (and probably deserves to be anyway) whilst Gibson is out.

Very good summation.

The only footballer I have seen that should have "hang time" included amongst his handball stats.

Thats funny, I don't even dislike the bloke.

You shouldn't forget he was out marked in the first quarter by Dunn which was a goal. All the three goals in the last were kicked on Watt. OK so I'm off by 2 Goals. Miller had an easy day getting 10 marks on him. Stats suggest he was crap.

Mate don't insinuate. I was at the game & made my judgments from what occurred in front of my eyes. I have no issue with Shannon. I don't dislike him but i am in the belief he isn't helping us win games & i will go as far as to say he is costing us.

Really? Which stats would those be? The ones that point out he was only one of two NM players to spend 100% of time on the ground, or the ones which rate 100% of his disposals as effective? The ones where he has the equally highest number of spoils (5) or the ones where he's the only player not to have a 'clanger' (magnificent word) recorded against his name?

Personally I don't put a lot of faith in stats, but you raised it so I'm interested to know exactly how they represent his game as 'crap'.

And yes, Robertson did have the better of him in the last quarter - Watt also had seven possessions in that quarter so it's not like he was sitting on his arse reciting poetry while the ball wandered by.

I have no problem agreeing that Watt is not a long term prospect in the team. But IMHO his performances this year have been solid, unremarkable, and not individually deserving of the inevitable 'Drop Watt' threads which you feel compelled to start after every game.

Miller carved him up? Robbo dee-stroyed him.
Miller did sod all and Robbo only got kicks when the game was over.
I'm with Kangalicious.
Right...thats it.....im going to wear the number 16 on the back of my North jumper every time i see you and shout.....BBBRRROOWWWNNNIIEE...every time he touches the ball.
You and Kangalicious are making yourself look very silly if you think Watt is our future?

Did you read my last post? I just said I don't think he's the future. (maybe I used words that were too long?)

I also said he hasn't been rubbish enough to warrant all this hating.

You seem to be backing him up at every opportunity, and your only reason is"he was ok" or "played a solid game" to justify why you think people should leave him alone.
I think your reasoning for Watt not to be there are only SOLID or even OK posts that you reply too.
If you also believe Watt is not our future, why do you think he should be named every week when we have S.THOMMO showing signs that he could be the FUTURE of the NMFC.
Your smatarse comment of "maybe I used words that were too long" are not warranted and i think you need to pull your head in.
IN:S.Thommo
OUT:Watt and Kangalicious( for being uneducated on general footy chat)
