Most of you dicckheads are supporting watt only because he plays for the kangaroos. You dont understand that every forward in the league loves playing on him because he is shhit. Brendon Fevola said it at the start of the year, and know Tredrea loves playing on him. The thing i hate about watt is he makes his teamates look bad. On sunday he and tredrea were right on the boundary contesting one on one. The ball was tailor made for a backman to punch out of bounds yet Tredrea marks over his head and kicks a long ball to Lade one out with Colbert in the goal square and goals. Then the dickkhead watt goes and pats Colby on the back as if it was his fault. YOU ******** SHANNON WATT it was your fault. Also when urchy didnt pass the ball to him in the second quarter, Watt tells him off. I mean what the fck. Who are you to tell urchy off. You are the biggest fck up in the team
Watt has been rarely beaten this year and he has played on some big names. He may not be the best but he has shown this year that at CHB he can be a valuable member. His body work has improved and he has definately gained a lot more confidence.

I doubt many defenders would be able to stopth Treadrea yesterday, and considering the ball use, I wouldn't blame them.

Hmmm. Lets see. Our backline currently is sh*t due to 1 obvious reason: our midfield weakness. Our midfield weakness stems from the fact that we (a)have no ruckman at centre bounces and (b) have midfielders that go missing for 75% of the game and apply little/no pressure (Urch and Arch excepted). If we solve that, we at least stop the obliteration of our backmen due to precise delivery of their midfielders. Watt is good. He may not be the strongest player, but he's there to at least attempt a spoil. Brown on the other hand is never within 5-10m of his man, and thats not through lack of pace, but through lack of effort. Now, delist Watt and our tallest option back there is?? Sinclair?? Brown cannot spend any more time back there IMO. Option is to use Watt at FB and bring Perry in as 2nd or 3rd defender. Either that or pull a ready made FB out of nowhere through trade/draft....

I guess the fact the ball was being delivered on a platter and he had no support and it spent 95% of the second half down there had nothing to do with it...
Brown has more to answer for this season.
What dross - did you use that excuse for Michael Stevens in the other thread?

I am not the biggest Shannon Watt fan but he has improved this year and will not be delisted. I am annoyed the number of times Tredrea mark uncontested given Watt's pace and his inability to be at marking contests to spoil, but I reckon I would have kicked four playing for Port yesterday.

Yeah, I reckon you're being a bit hard on Watt. He did a fair job, but for the most part he had no help. Any tall back is going to be exposed when there's heaps of space and constant delivery, especially against the gun forward of the competition. Where were the smaller blokes cutting off Warren and Lade's leads?

As for utility's comment, Tredrea is good because he makes best position...its why he doesn't contest as many marks as his competitors. If Watt had beaten Tredrea yesterday, in those conditions, with that midfield display, you'd have the AA fullback there, no question.

Spot on Porthos. And I think a large part of the credit needs to go to Mark Williams, whose match-ups in the forward line were a big reason why none of the other defenders (namely usual suspects Archer, Colbert and the ommitted Pratt) were able to cramp Tredrea's space.

Regardless, the North midfield is crying out for some more accountable midfielders to slow the speed and ease of delivery that Port's midfield provided yesterday. That was what really killed us.

We've got to give credit where it is due: yesterday we saw why Tredrea is a premiership captain and AA CHF, and Williams a premiership coach.

Watt has had a real good season - look at the last 12 weeks or so - one of the key reasons we were in the finals I reckon.

Even if he is crap, he never drops his head and keeps trying - even yesterday when the ******** weak efforts of the midfield meant he was up against it every time he kept working.

Watt should stay and be praised for his improvements and his efforts this season.

I have to agree with Kanga20. I believe he is a very ordinary player. He has had basically two full seasons on the ground and has rarely been benched and over those past two years he has been pretty much crap. Alright he has played a good game or two but Kanga20 is correct, he gives his opponent too much room. I said this a couple of weeks ago and everyone was bagging me but its truly the truth. Its too late now but next year when you go to a North game watch Watt closely and you will think of me because you will clearly see that he gives his opponent way too much room. Fair enough a couple of passes are unstoppable but come on he has to stop those easy ones just like Kanga20 mentioned above about Watt and Tredrea on the boundry and then Watt going to Colby patting him on the back becuase i saw exaclty that.

Don't you think it funny, that in two years of football, not ONE PERSON in the coaching box has seen it the way you do and changed him doing it. I saw Watt tell all the coaches last week, this is the the way I'm playing and if you don't like it, stiff. Oh O.K Watty sorry, you do what you like, we just sitting here drinking water. Do you think he runs his own race??? or is he told what to do. I'm tipping his told how to play and were to stand, but maybe that's just me.

You cannot possibly compare Watt and Stevens' games.
Watt was playing on a champion and was with him at most contests, and is always going to get beaten on a lead if the ball is coming in well.
Stevens was playing on the very average Mahoney and refused to go anywhere near him, except at centre bounces after Mahoney had kicked/set up goals.

To those who yelled at Watt last week for his job on Tradrea, get a tape of last nights game. The AA full back seemed to give the same head start, the same leads, and the same space that Watt afforded a great forward with awesome delivery. The only difference was that his midfield affected the delivery to Tradrea inside 50 and the sheer amount he received. He also seemed on top in the one on one contests, which I think Watt also did well in.

While I would prefer Rutten as a FB, it shows that the performance Watt put in was not the disgrace some thought and indeed it was probably around the mark when the midfield puts in a shocker.

Rutten is into his second season at AFL level. Had he spent the last two years at Carlton, he'd be delisted by now. Lack of midfield pressure would make him look slow and out of his depth.

For what it's worth, I thought Watt did an ok job on Tredrea.

port scored 5 goals against adelaide

and port scored 26 goals against the kangaroos

u reckon that might be a difference too??

if ur main goal scorer doesn't score at least 4 goals when the team scores 26...... somethin is up

when a side scores 5 goals and their main goal scorer doesn't score any..... that is believable

LOL, i suppose he played good that day against the Saints where Gehrig kicked a lazy 10 on him.
To be fair, Arch was also on him that day.

But yes, Watt is a good, sorry GUN player.

Watt could've taken some advice from old Mick. Start a few paces in front of the FF and contest the incoming ball in such away that you collide heavily with the FF giving him no chance to mark. Is it that hard ?

Was it just me, or was anyone else amazed that Watt was in the half time sprint final. Is he truly the fastest we have to offer (excluding Wells who must still be pretty impressed with himself after seeing what he took to the Brownlow :thumbsu: )?

I don't remember who won the final, but my guess is that if anyone finished 3-4 metres in front of Watt, it must have been a full forward who needed to run into form (sorry, couldn't help myself ;) ).

I said to my wife (who was due to give birth yesterday and is now overdue)when I got home that Watt ran in the sprint. She said, "If he's that quick how come the full-forward is always 5 metres ahead of him on the lead?" Smart girl, my wife!!
