Past 38. Sam Durdin

Sam Durdin has to be played at least until Weitering and/or McGovern returns. He has the next 5 or 6 games to impress.
Hayes is in a similar position too. The club knows how he plays, a wing spot is there for the taking.
Would not be surprised if both play next week.

Prime opportunity for him to kickstart his career with a team going places and make himself an indispensable part of a defensive unit.

North's list management has been horrible for some time...big reason they're in their current situation.

IIRC 2020 was an absolute shitshow for North in the hubs under Shaw. Not a happy group.

I do think Durdin has to wear some of the blame though...Mckay came through around the same time and he's a gun now.

Durdin in recent interviews seems to accept his delisting was fair enough...he said that he'll give his best 'this time' which implies he didn't at North. Also said his time at Glenelg was the most fun he's had in footy, implying he didn't have a good time at North. I think our culture and coaches could get the best out of him.

Don't get me wrong his performance in 2020 were worthy of delisting. He was bloody awful.

I just think it was a bit short sighted of North at that point. They'd stalled his development with a lack of game time and then it all seemed to come down to bad timing with injury.

You gotta have a plan for 2MP.

He'll convert 3/4 anywhere inside 55 and without being A grade he's big enough and good enough to get enough shots to have a significant impact, even on an opponent's number 1 defender.

Young's actually a pretty good match-up because Wright won't test him for strength or speed and Young has the size and reach.

Question is whether you run the risk with the resting ruck and the rotation which could see Jones deep and Wright high. Not an easy decision to make given Wright's rage.

On one view it's all academic as you should steamroll us at the source. But we're very good at capitalising on the clean break from congestion/stoppages. That and junk possessions is about all our midfield is good for.

It should mean we get reasonable supply forward, particularly because you're defence is still at the contest and forward half.

If I was in Voss' shoes I'd play Durdin because having tested KPD depth could be the difference between finals wins and not.

I reckon it's an imperative against us. An upset is never out of the question such is the nature of the rivalry. If we get you the game will look like circle work. If that happens you don't want to expose defenders giving away 10cm. You have the same systemic weakness Port has in that type of game.
Durdin should be played but the way to counter 2mtr Peter would be to stop his supply, we've been pretty good with our pressure this season and we must bring it against the Bombers.

Durdin's an obvious in - straight replacement for Weiters. No brainer.

Hayes? Well why elevate him if you're not going to play him?

And
he knows our system, the coaches know his strengths/weaknesses and what he brings....

Straight in for me

(bar he has been injured in recent weeks?)

If he hasn't been injured why hasn't he and why wasn't I told? I'm a paying member! I need to be notified of all injury free players and when we can expect their next block of time on the sidelines! Amateur hour, Russell!

Wait till thursday, he will be on the long term list to return in round 21.

Kingy also said on Saturday he didn't think Bailey Smith had any intention of headbutting Tuohy - the man just blindly fires from the hip.
Sometimes.

Anyone hear D.King on SEN this morning, then backed up by Gerard re: Durdin / ordinary?
May have misheard.

It's going to seem like I'm Durdin's mum but, I keep getting notifications, and it should be noted that King is a reactionary idiot who barely understand the statistics categories he quotes.

Most recent is using the score involvement stat to refer to score creation. He clearly doesn't understand that not all clearances are contested and not all contested possessions require body contact to be counted. I suppose this is not uniquely embarrassing for King given that experts and even current coaches discuss these categories in a way that indicates they dont get it either.

Even that dumb leg drive segment. It's based on Judd exploding through stoppages and then he shows examples of current players taking 3 steps to the side because they're in form but they don't have a break away game.

We've got an amazing list, apparently. He's been dumb enough to be sucked in by our circle work since at least 2018.

King takes an almost vindictive view against anyone at North that doesn't live up to his ideal.

Said along the lines he's rather Jeremy McGovern with a back spasm ahead of Durdin.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. Some AFL journalists and commentators don’t even know which player they are watching at times.

Well, this is why he we recruited. Good luck Sam, suspect you will surprise many that have doubts
I'm not holding my breath just quietly..
Just don't think he is ready.

Hope you are right.

If Sam can stand up, it will do so much for us. He is 100% a last line of defence Sam Rowe type who can kill off the high ball. In this game, he takes the resting ruck. In other games, he can take the monster forward and allow Weitering to be an interceptor. Just stay healthy Sam and you could be a key part of our finals campaign.

Couldn't agree more. We have been struggling to fill that second KPD since Jones left.

Would be such a bonus if he can play that lockdown role on the oppositions big forwards/resting rucks (darcy types).

Good luck Nige.
