Past #39: Finnbar 'Moose' Maley - traded to ADEL in '25 trade period - 7 NM games, 4 NM goals - go well Moose

Yeah not sure how many we will take and the thing will be who we bring in as a ready to go type. I believe we have eyes on Spargo and the youngster from the Hawfs. HH

6 goals from 2 games from Trembath has made it less likely for Finnbar. And as it should.
Like we said earlier HH would be a real nice pickup from the Hawks. Not sure were Spargo fits in though.

Yes well the delistings will be interesting at seasons end, normally it takes me 5 minutes to produce my list lol. Not that its ever correct.

1. Ford- has gone.
2. Phillips- is gone
3. Fisher- we will try and offload
4.K Dawson (r) - gone
5. Teakles (r) - gone or should be
6. Tucker- should be gone.
7. Stevens- dunno but yeah

So that's about the lot for me, we're imo are to nice to delist a long term injured player ( Bergman)

So our fwd options for 2026 as follows; Darling , CCJ ( cripes) Larkey, Trembath, then how we playing Corrs, W Dawson, Whitlock, Comben, Pinks and Logues down back. One of those surely swings into the fwd group for preseason training.
My preference is now for Whitlock to do so.

And yes i'm not a huge fan of Logues, Corrs, Pinks or CCJs, there's many reasons we're 17th again, and that's probably at least 3 of them.

If we can find 7 to go I'd like to think the Sprooce Goose survives for another year, he has improved, so that's normally taken into consideration.
Tucker won't be gone. They like him at the selection committee

In some trouble, but club still likes him. Am told it's more likely than not that he'll still be on the list in 2026 but it's not a guarantee.

You’d think that Cooper Trembath’s performance over the last 3 weeks has pushed Finnbar down the pecking order.

You still need depth and as long as he's not costing us the earth, he's a handy player to have for now. Remember, Darling is coming to the end.

And besides, who are you going to replace him with? A wet behind the ears, 18yo who may or may not be able to tie his own shoelaces? Considering this year is apparently a weak draft, I think i'd rather keep Finbar for another year and see how he continues to develop.

Yes well and if we're honest, parking the romance for a minute. How could the majority not think what the **** is this guy doing on the field. If Majak's football smarts were from Sudan, Finnbars are from Mars.

Not against the experiment and not against him staying, but I hope we can find better options for our future.
He may improve over the next 12 months. I'd like to think Goad, Whitlock and Dawson also improve.

I think beyond next year when Darling probably moves on, we probably have room for all of them if they end up proving themselves.

Forwards: Larkey, Trembath, Goad, Maley
Defenders: Dawson, Whitlock, Comben, (Pink, Logue)

1 more year for finbar and only because the list lacks key forward options.

Does anyone honestly think his kicking is going to improve? And it’s not even the goal kicking. He’s like a deer in the headlights when he marks the ball in general play. He lacks so much confidence in his kicking he takes ages to move it on.

Confidence you can absolutely work on.

Technique on the other hand, rarely improves. But he was a late starter, so maybe you could unpick bad habits.

Well it's brutal if we move Finbar on, but in this years draft you could pick up a ruck/fwd in Louis Emmett with 20/21 or 39 on Taj Murray who is more athletic and skilled then Finbar.
Tairon Ah-Mu is a big strong 200cm ruck/fwd who clunks it and hits the scoreboard quite often.
There's a kid Ainsworth from SA as a ruck or Liam Hetherton at 197cm as a key forward.
Cody Curtin at 200cm is also raw but shown he's capable of kicking bags on his day in the WAFL as a fwd/ruck.
So as harsh as it is, if you picked up one of them, they might not have the bodies to be ready straight away like Finbar, but perhaps they are more likely to have the ability to make it at AFL level with development.
But I'm fine if we keep Finbar for 12 months and move on a Corr or Fisher and draft one of those kids too.

I guess this is sort of my point. Rather than moving a guy on who's on minimum chips with potential upside, we should be trying to move others on who are surplus to needs (like the bolded), who are costing us considerably more.

I’d take Maley over that spud CCJ, but it’s rumoured we have offered CCJ another contract?

Talk about sunk costs. Now we are doubling down and sinking more on a potato that is literally a carbon rod.

Not a fan of CCJ at all and can't argue with your assessment of him as harsh as it might be.

Reality is though, if Big X goes down, there's no other back-up currently on our list. Outside of this, there's only one other reason that I can accept CCJ being on the list and that is if he is playing first ruck in the VFL on minimum or close to minimum wage. This allows Goad to spend next year developing into the role that we need him to play in the seniors. That is primarily as a competent tall forward/ back-up Ruck.

He hasn’t got it. Waste of a list spot. They’re tight

Mate, he's played what? 5 games? Sure, Trembath might be setting the world on fire immediately but most tall's take time and there needs to be some depth in case of injury. There could still be development in him and if he stays on for another year on a low $ contract, I can't see an issue with that.

I would rather us take a state league ruckman and put them on the rookie list than keep a bloke that can’t even perform as backup.

He’s a shittruck that actually makes the side worse when he is in it.

Yeah Cooper has had a great start but like all young players will have his ups and downs Depth in Finnbar not a bad idea at all.

I can. I’d like to see the club delist, put him in the reserves, have him train with the club and play with the twos for one more year. Creating their own Cat B type rookie spot in good faith he will be looked at mid season or at years end for a rookie spot and paid a healthy liveable salary, under the table payment which will have him aligned with our club and doesn’t nominate for the pre season draft. Thats what I want to see

Crows chasing the son of “Mailman”

By Marc McGowan

Adelaide are speaking to North Melbourne about forward-ruck Finnbar Maley, who played all seven of his games this year.

Maley, the son of 1990s NBL star aPaul “The Mailman” Maley, is out of contract, and shouldn’t require a great return - this one might even rival Will Brodie’s triple-digit pick.

Finnbar isn’t the only Maley in the news as his sister, Australian basketballer Anneli Maley was named co-captain with Amy Atwell of WNBL club Perth Lynx ahead of the new season which tips off this weekend.

Crows make late play for Kangaroos tall

Simeon Thomas-Wilson

Adelaide is working on a deal for North Melbourne tall Finnbar Maley, while Ivan Soldo could depart Port Adelaide.

The Crows are still locked in a stalemate with Brisbane on forward Callum Ah Chee, with Adelaide getting closer and closer to walking the 28-year-old to the pre-season draft.

It isn’t the only deal the Crows are working on, with Adelaide also pursuing Maley.

The 22-year-old forward/ruck played seven games for the Kangaroos this year.

Maley heading to Crows

By Marc McGowan

The Crows have a new big man.
North Melbourne trade Finnbar Maley and pick 64 to Adelaide for pick 57 and a 2026 fourth-rounder.
