Looks like a rugby player, very interested to see what he can bring.

Think our VFL team is going to be a fun watch this year, going to have a few players running through there that could be anything.

Exactly, RFK, get him in there to clear a path for everyone else.
An aggressive 193-195cm brute with a rugby background as an inside mid is as un-Essendon as it gets. I'm not including Jobe as he was a F/S.

I'm getting ahead of myself, but this guy could completely change the way our midfield functions. If he, Hobbs and Perkins come on as mids and if Durham and Cox develop on a wing, then we're going to have a very difficult midfield to beat. That's the type of midfield I've been wanting us to build for 16+ years.

Or he could be just another Hibberd

If Hibberd actually played as an inside mid, the story might have been different. I believe he was mismanaged with us.

Besides that, I see enough qualities about Voss to suggest that he can make it. We'll see in time whether he does or doesn't make it.
Hibberd played as an inside mid at VFL though didnt he? Just we had too much quality in front of him. We have even more quality now. Voss will have to be very very good even when Shiel is done i expect to play as an inside mid at AFL level

Yikes. Better train that out of him or he’ll be less available that Toby Greene…
Initial contact was ok, just needs to raise his target zone by 2 inches and make initial contact just above the sternum and keep his hands wrapped around the waist and away from the guys hips, that way he won't get that spear motion where his legs fly up.

Obviously easier said than done, and the speed that the game goes means it can be easy to get wrong.

But if you cant do it properly, don't try it I suppose. Only bad things can happen for you, and even worse things to the guy you tackle.

Professional athletes can do it though. Google Jorge Taufua hit compilation, particularly the one on Cameron Munster. He is the best at it (albeit rugby league) and all the guys he hits get back up cause he gets them right in the sweet spot.

Or he was played out of position at AFL level because we stubbornly continued to rotate Smith and Walla through the midfield. Cahill even attended some centre bounces, which was ridiculous. He was mismanaged. What's done is done.

We can easily fit Voss as part of our inside mid rotation in 4 years or so if he is good enough. Stringer would likely play permanent forward. Shiel will be done. Merrett to the outside. Perkins will spend some time forward. McGrath spends some time at HB.

Parish, Hobbs, Caldwell, Perkins and Voss can be our main ball winners, with Perkins spending some time forward and Voss spending some time in other areas of the ground. That's a great mix.

His Dad has a big background in rugby union coaching, so you'd expect very good tackling technique out of his son. He played mainly as a forward as an AFL junior and has kicked bags against, admittedly, weak opposition doing that. He's a good pick up given his physical profile and multi-sport experience (junior sports generalists statistically have a much higher rate of success at the elite level compared to kids who specialise too early), but you'd expect a few years of development at least before we can see if he's up for it at higher levels of the game.

Highlights look good. Not taken in the national draft though.. does anyone know the specific knocks on him? Or is it just simply a lack of polish?
