I'm already with Optus and given work will flip the bill, I don't give a shit, but it sounds reasonable.

I doubt I'd ever use 3Gb of internet whilst out and about anyway...probably wouldn't even use 1Gb!

I was told today that the Resellers won't be selling them.

By the looks of it you'll buy it from the Apple stores when they open, take the paper work to Vodafone or Optus and you'll get your phone.

Doesn't sound right. I signed up for a pre-registration for Vodafone today. I've also been in to ask at the Vodafone store near where I work & they said they are getting them in.

This is coming from one of my bosses, The National Sales Manager Of NextByte.

If you don't know what NextByte is....

Its Australia's number 1 Reseller of Apple Products for 4 out of the last 5 years.
Nextbyte ois also owned by Vita Group who owns FoneZone (who I hate - Telstra sellouts).

Nextbyte was told on Tuesday that they won't be getting the phone and all sales will go through Apple.

Sorry mate, i understand that. But Vodafone have told me what they have told me. It might be that way for NextByte, but it most probably won't be for Voda & Optus. Why would apple direct people to the Voda & Optus website from their own for more information about purchasing the iPhone?

Are there any other phones around $200 that are reccomended?
I'm not sure whether to get this if I have to go on a plan, Im currently on Optus Prepaid.

Holy smokes that is a stunning price.

Apple are going to grab a massive slice of the phone market and are at the same time going to be introducing masses of new people to the brand.

The ultimate loss leader, very clever. They are running rings around Microsoft.

when are people gonna realize microsoft is maily and almost 100% a software company,
apple does hardware as well so you cant compare the 2, for mine id be going the htc touch as it doesnt have some of the limitations of the iphone. and i wont look like one of the sheep looking cool, for now my nokia 73 is fine.

The world is changing, after a long period of almost total dominance Microsoft has challenges coming form everywhere. The growth of shrink wrapped applications and even operating systems are going to sharply decline. Microsoft are desperately scrambling to find a foothold in the new marketplace and so far they have been very unsuccessful.

As I said originally, I see the phone as a loss leader; it introduces a massive new market to their brand, a percentage of which will migrate to their software.

good luck to the iphone apple are on a good thing and i dont have a prob with it but the mass of manufacturers in the tech world means getting into the phone market will not mean that they are the one and only in the field, unlike the creation of the mp3 and ipod.

its not for everyone and there are better alternatives

I wish Vodafone would be more vocal... I got my email that a representative would contact me shortly last week and never heard back. I guess I'll be sitting outside a Vodafone store early on July 11

spoke to a vodaphone guy today at work and he said that the phone would be cheap in comparison to some that are out there and would be sold direct from vodaphone not apple.

also said its overated because theres lots of better phones out there.

Better phones doesn't necessarily mean it's overrated. I suspect for every one Mac nut who buys it just because it's Apple, there's another anti-Apple dude who won't even consider it just because it's Apple.
