Where can I find the firmware I need? My iphone is brand new and in the about section, it says it's on firmware 2.1.

What am I doing wrong?

Update to 2.2 through iTunes, then download the new Quickpwn.

If not, search for iPhone 3G 2.1 ipsw in google, and you will find some download links

Nope. Although, if you are looking towards getting a free carrier unlock in the near future..try to stay with 2.1. A software unlock is set for the start of the new year, and 2.1 is preferred

does anyone here have issues with the headphone jack?

i use it to plug my phone into aux in my car. whenever a call comes in and i pull out the plug it hangs up the call.
 
That used to never happen to me, but I haven't tried it in a while. Although the other day a mate called so I unplugged it from the speakers and it hung up; he called again though so it didn't really matter.

Damnit, I've started getting that stupid "xxx apllication could not be installed on Shottie's iPhone due to an unknown error (0xE800002E)." crap.

Makes it worse, there's no fix for it, only some shitty workarounds that make you lose your data. I've searched endlessly on it, any ideas?

im getting a similar message. but mine says the application cannot be installed because it is not compatible with this iphone.

still debating whether to upgrade to 2.2 or just stay with 2.1 for now.

if i was the upgrade to 2.2 and quickpwn it again, what would happen with all my jailbroken apps? would i have to download them again? im guessing thats the case. which is why ive held off updating to 2.2
 
I'm planning on getting myself an iphone. Who should I sign up with, Telstra, Optus or Vodaphone?

You'd lost your jailbroken apps. I haven't jailbroken in a while, but I am pretty sure there is an app on Cydia that backs up your jailbroken apps so if you restore/upgrade you can get the apps back easily.

Just restore/upgrade to fix that stupid message though, always does the trick.

Has anyone got a jailbroken 2.2 iphone?

ive read the post on cydia about upgrading and cant make sense of it. From what i can gather, it can be done. But the methods on how confused the hell out of me.

On the site it says it can be done for MAC, is there a PC version out yet?
i dont think so but thought id check.

i'm pretty happy with my optus iphone plan.

$79 (+ $4 for the 16gb, could have gotten the 8 gig for free)

includes $550 calls, 700MB usage, unlimited txt and yes time.

i know the virgin has a free to v offer, but how many people would you actually know on virgin?

One question though.

My Cydia apps. How can i get them to reinstall after i jailbreak the 2.2 firmware?

Is it as easy as install AptBackup in Cydia.
Click Backup
Upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes
Jailbreak using Quickpwn 2.2
Click Restore in AptBackup

Just want to make sure before i do it as i cant really afford any time delays with the phone. I have grabbed all files i need off it, the rest is synced with folders.

At Virgin you can get the 8GB for $70 a month or the 16GB for $74.

With those you get $520 worth of all calls, 1GB data usage, free voicemail and free calls and text 24/7 virgin to virgin.

Me and the missus are both on network, so it works out well.

I reckon it's better than the optus deal.

Dunno mate, i guess so, when a new firmware is released i re download all my cydia apps, ala a fresh reinstall.
Havnt tried Aptbackup. Tho you've got me curious.

from what the app says it just keeps a list, doesnt actually backup the apps. So i guess its more of a shortcut.

might give it a go, if all else fails ill just download them one by one?
 
ran quickpwn after updating to 2.2

after its been through the process and reboots mine is taking forever.

its been going for a couple of hours now!!

dont think its frozen or crashed because every now and then it vibrates twice, disconnetcs from the computer, reconnects, resets.

weird!


EDIT: haha of course as soon as i put that post up it finished
