Dont really remember a lot of him.

Patrick Patterson was one of my favourites.

Tony Gray was another good West Indian who could have played more.
I think it was Bloers that described Patterson as having a backside that you balance a cup of tea and saucer on.

Was Winston Benjamin any good?

Never took a five-for in tests but did an admirable job as a fourth quick. He was quality but a step below the other heavyweights. He didn’t have the same pace as his namesake Kenny.

Read a really good article recently about Winston, he’s now the head maintanence guy at one of the main grounds in the Caribbean

Yeah I know. But if he didn’t get banned either a) he may have never had much of a chance anyway, or b) he probably would have gotten his chance at the expense of someone else who took 2-300 test wickets!
He had a season with Tassie too, I have vague recollections of seeing him play SA.

Thanks mate. Sounds like a gun second change from what you're saying. That's too bad they couldn't get him a better paying gig?

Who was your favourite West Indian bowler?

Tough question. I am barely old enough to remember Marshall (I snuck out of bed as a kid during the 1991 series and saw a bit of him), Walsh and Ambrose and to a lesser extent bishop I saw plenty of.

Hard to go past Curtly of the ones I saw, but I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Patrick Patterson, had a bit of the Sylvester Clarke ‘mystery makes him scary’ about him, and the way he charged in and stomped down at the crease and sent down this supersonic speed of delivery I find quite endearing. Dujon said he was the fastest he kept to and Graham Gooch, among the most fearless players of pace ever, said he was only frightened once and it was by Patterson.

I’m starting to really like Shannon Gabriel.

Yours?

Definitely Curtly.

The sight of a man that tall steaming in were some of my fondest memories of cricket growing up.

My favourite moment of the windies (apart from their insane champions trophy win against England 9 wickets down) was the odi game in Malaysia when allegedly Michael Clarke called Gayle a second class citizen, prompting Gayle to shoulder barge him and sledge the s**t out of him all night. Think Jerome Taylor took a hatrick in that match?? And they won. The outpouring of emotion on Gayles face at the end was electric. Anyone else remember it? Phat?

Carl Hooper for me, he's also the West Indian player I've most felt like strangling.

Yeah absolutely, awesome win and easily their best moment against Australia in the last 15-20 years aside from maybe a couple of key World T20 wins. The champions trophy win was a cracker as well.

Lol, I think everyone felt like that at some stage.

I kind of feel like he got some absolution at the back end of his career when he returned from a bit of a hiatus and averaged over 50 in his last stint - a mark far more appropriate for a player of his ability. Ear guards ftw

He did some coaching for a while, the interview gave the impression that he’s done okay out of cricket, he’s reasonably happy with his lot in life.

A lot of ex West Indies players don’t fare too well.
That makes me really sad to hear that. If they changed cricket for the better as much as I've heard and dominated for so long I would like to think they'd be fairly well set up now. Especially when I saw a glimpse of the beautiful Scott styris in a thousand dollar suit presenting the Sri Lanka Vs NZ game the other day. If his mug can make it on telly surely the gun windies quicks can get presenting roles

Honourary South Australian these days.

Absolutely awesome film, almost like the Alien to Fire In Babylon’s Predator, if you will.
The stories of some of those guys is devastating.
Time has softened my view on those tours but I don't know how they did it. I first went there in the very early 90s and while Apartheid was being pulled apart it was still there in attitude, it was shocking. A hefty pay cheque must have softened the blow for them a bit but it must have been f***ing hard work ethically at times. It's also now been uncovered that the SABC was subsidised through tax cuts from the government to sponsor that tour, it was basically paid for by the regime which was denied at the time.

I know I have been unfairly harsh on the Indian cricket team. but I met alot of Indian fans at Crown casino and they are the nicest fans you would ever meet.

We just weren’t good enough,I have to say, well done to India,a great team with classy fans who love a beer and a joke, congrats India ,sorry for being a prick.

Indian cricket fans are always great to talk to. Always. They really want to talk about cricket.
