3rd Ruckman

It seems that most of us feel that Ben Marsh has had enough chances to prove himself and it's likely he will be offered for trade. It seems to me, however, that he is more likely to be de-listed.

Looking at the current list I don't see another player that could fill the spot as 3rd ruckman should Biglands and Clarke, for whatever reason not play. We know that Laurence Anguin won't be back.

I haven't been following the SANFL as much this year and I'm not sure if there are any likely types that are likely to be targetted in the draft. I also don't feel there are any obvious ruckmen from other clubs that could be available or desirable, with the exception of Dean Brogan.

Any thoughts or trade goss on this one???

Cheers

It seems to me that most clubs don't carry a 3 specialist ruckman on the books in a 38 man list, with maybe the exception of Port. Obviously, if both Clarke and Biglands go down we'll struggle, but if one of them is fit, I would have thought that we'd be better off finding or developing a 6'4" type ruck/utility type as a pinchhitter - like Hawthorn have used Rawlings at times this year, or a Goodes/Keating type who are more big ruck-rovers than pure ruckmen.

I can't think off the top of my head anyone who'd be a likely target from another club from this role, but at a pinch Ian Perrie could do it (and he'd be a better bet than Marsh), or Evan Hewitt if he ever gets fit would certainly fit the bill for me.

Who else, other than Marsh, would be getting the DCM's from the Crows this year would you think?

I wouldn't delist Ben Marsh. I would try and trade him first - if nobody bites then you would have to delist him. Others on my list of delistings/trades are:

Hayden Skipworth - I can't talk about being short! but I don't think he is up to it!

Matty Shir - I know he has done well over the last couple of weeks and it might save him, but he has been around for a few years for not much return.

Laurence Angwin - We have put up with this babys antics for too long, he should have been delisted or traded last year.

Ben Marsh - Has had many chances. Its time to go - Ben Marsh

Evan Hewitt - Horrid injury run, which may save him but I don't see any long term potential here.

Ian Perrie - Has been around for many years. Hasn't taken the game by the scruff of the neck - he can - he just doesn't for whatever reason.

Id keep Marsh one more season.

I know he's had his chances but maybe he's a summer short of a blooming.

How do you train a bloke to have a BIG heart

Disagree topjars & I reckon it is time to delist / trade Marsh at the end of the season.

Fair comment - If Angwin comes back he would be the best choice for that role] but I'd say there is more chance of a white Christmas than him returning IMHO.

It will be interesting come trade/delisting time. Most of the options mentioned are all possible delistings as well.

If Marsh goes and none of the other talls get the chop then i'd say Hewett would be a fair option for a mobile tall/spare ruckman type. I think Ken McGregor did the job in a match once in the last quarter.

I wouldn't class Keating as a ruckrover type - better than his brother I guess - most Lions see him as a lumbering type from what I've heard.

another question - delistings-retirees

How many players have to be delisted?

I know that includes players who retire - and most of us would want Smarty and Bicks to play on and I reckon they will.

Anyone else likely to retire?

Delistings for me are hard to pick. I'd say Marsh [if no trade] and Skipworth. I find it hard to come up with obvious ones unlike other years.

How long has Matty Clarke to go??
You dont give away a BIGMAN easily.

I wouldnt be too hasty Kane; lets get an option to replace him first and lets talk turkey.

eg Biglands NOT rucking sounds inviting:eek:
Marsh has no ticker, so he should go. We have Biglands, Clarke & even Hewitt who are better rucking options. Time to cut him lose & bring up a youngster behind our current 2.

Also, Biglands best position is in ruck, with the occasional pinch hit up forward. Trying to turn him into a key position type (eg. on Tredrea) is stupid. We have seen over the past month that his best value is in the ruck.
